October is the perfect time to experience the beauty of the Southern Carmine bee-eater at Kwando Camp, a stunning lodge on the banks of the Kavango River. This striking bird, an intra-African migrant, breeds in northern Botswana from August to November, and during this season, the skies come alive with their vibrant red plumage as they nest along the riverbanks.

At Kwando Camp, you'll have front-row access to this incredible spectacle while enjoying the serene surroundings of the Kavango River. After the breeding season, these birds linger until the rainy season passes, before migrating north.

For bird lovers and nature enthusiasts, Kwando Camp offers an unforgettable opportunity to witness the Southern Carmine bee-eater in its natural habitat. Book your stay and immerse yourself in the beauty of Botswana's wildlife! http://www.kwandocamp.com/

Taking meat into Botswana and Namibia
We receive regular questions about taking meat and other fresh produce into Botswana and Namibia from South Africa. Due to the FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease) outbreak in Limpopo, no meat may cross the border from South Africa to Namibia or Botswana. This regulation includes biltong, animal hides, dairy products and eggs. At some of the border posts you might even find they confiscate fruit and vegetables. This means that canned products and UHT products are the best option until this ban is lifted.

Situated on the banks of the Kwando River in Namibia’s Zambezi Region (formerly called the Caprivi), Camp Kwando accommodation types such as Island Tents, Camp Sites and Tree Houses. It offers decent base to explore the Mudumu National Park and the Mamili National Park.

The island boasts 12 thatched tents, each one with two beds. All beds have mosquito nets. Built on poles with a deck overlooking the river, these bungalows will allow you to do some fishing from the deck. Every tent has an outside shower with a canvas roof over, en-suite bathroom with shower to enjoy the surrounding nature.

The facilities provide showers with hot and cold water, toilets and basins, as well as a place to do your laundry. There is a power supply from 08:00 to 0:00 and 18:00 to 22:00; cell phone reception; Wi-Fi (in the main area). There are NO safes in the tents and no TV or radio.

Four larger chalets on stilts/tree houses are also available on higher ground; the poles are made of wood and canvas along with thatched roofs. Each tree house has a large and stylish bedroom, en-suite bathroom, as well as an expanding deck.

The main area is split into three different thatched areas. The main reception is central and to one side of this is the bar. To the other side is the dining area. All three spaces have a semi circular deck overlooking the river and offer plenty of comfortable seating where you can relax and take in the views. There is also a well-stocked curio shop to buy some souvenirs from your trip.

Several activities are possible at Camp Kwando, for example a boat trip along the Kwando River. There is also the chance to go on day game drives to the Mudumu National Park. For the adventurous, camping trips to Mamili Game Park can be organised. Another activity on request is a fishing trip, but this is only available for a party of four people.
