Every visit to Omaruru Game Lodge is a treat ☺️

This weekend brought plenty of fun moments. One highlight was watching the male peacock strut his stuff, fanning out his vibrant feathers in an attempt to impress the female. It was such a lighthearted and entertaining sight, and we couldn’t help but stop and chuckle at his determination.

Omaruru always delivers on its charm, with moments like these making it a place we love returning to again and again.

We’re back at Omaruru Game Lodge, and it never fails to amaze us! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the lodge’s friendly giraffe, followed by sightings of elegant African buck roaming freely around the property.

The real magic happened during dinner—right as we were enjoying our meal, a majestic rhino came right up to the border wall, offering an unforgettable up-close encounter. The combination of wildlife, incredible hospitality, and the serene atmosphere makes this lodge one of our all-time favourites.

Here's a look back at our time spend in Sandwich Harbour on our October Tour.

Unforgettable Moments at Sandwich Harbour 🌊

Our time in Sandwich Harbour was absolutely incredible. Walking along the beach, we spotted seals lounging on the shore and even witnessed a jackal feasting on a seal—such a raw and wild moment. The pink flamingos wading in the shallows added a touch of elegance, and the Cape cormorants gathered in huge flocks, soaking up the sun, were a sight to behold.

Driving through the towering sand dunes in a 4x4 was pure exhilaration, with every turn revealing something new. One of the most memorable moments was meeting a large pelican up close—it was such an unexpected and special encounter.

Sandwich Harbour is truly where the desert meets the ocean, and it gave us memories we’ll carry forever.

Desert Adventures at Le Mirage 🏜️

Our time at Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa was nothing short of magical. We kicked things off with some thrilling quad biking through the endless red dunes—it was pure fun, with the desert stretching out in every direction. The sense of freedom out there was unforgettable.

The next day, we visited the iconic Sossusvlei. Climbing Big Daddy dune was a challenge, but sharing laughs and encouragement along the way made it so rewarding. Standing at the top, surrounded by those breathtaking views, felt like we were on another planet. And then there was Deadvlei—walking among its ancient, twisted trees was like stepping into a living postcard.

The Namib Desert showed us its beauty, its vastness, and its heart. These moments are ones we’ll hold onto forever.

Desert Adapted Wonders of the Namib 🌵

The Namib Desert revealed its incredible resilience and beauty as we encountered some of its most remarkable desert-adapted wildlife. We marveled at the elegant Gemsbok, perfectly suited to the harsh desert conditions with their striking markings and ability to survive without water for days.

In the driest parts of the desert, we spotted majestic elephants, a true testament to nature’s adaptability, as they searched for water and food in this arid landscape. Under the sparse shade of desert trees, lions rested, blending into the golden sands. Towering above it all were the graceful giraffes, their long necks reaching for the highest leaves on desert trees.

Each encounter was a reminder of the incredible ways these animals thrive in one of the world’s most unforgiving environments.

Discovering Wildlife at Divava Lodge 🌿

Nestled in Namibia’s Kavango East region, within the lush Caprivi Strip, Divava Lodge offered an unforgettable experience for nature lovers. At the nearby Popa Falls, we observed the vibrant Southern Carmine bee-eaters nesting along the riverbanks, their bright colors lighting up the landscape.

The Okavango River also brought us close to its larger inhabitants—hippos—calmly basking and grazing in their natural habitat. This unique setting perfectly blends stunning scenery with remarkable wildlife encounters.

A Journey into Namibian Culture at Lapa Lange Lodge ✨

At Lapa Lange Lodge, nestled on the edge of the vast Namibian Kalahari, our guests had the unique opportunity to connect with the rich heritage of Namibia’s Bushman community. Here, on the red sands of the Kalahari—a region known for its arid beauty and diverse wildlife—they experienced firsthand the traditions, stories, and survival skills that have been preserved for generations. From learning ancient techniques to witnessing traditional dances, this cultural encounter was an enriching highlight of our journey.

An October to Remember! 🌍

Andre Steenkamp and Helmuth W Wagner just wrapped up an incredible two-week Namibian safari with Jurg, Sabine, Rene, Maedi, and Brigitte, and what an unforgettable journey it was! Over the past weeks, we explored Namibia’s diverse landscapes, from the lush riverbanks of Chobe River to the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei and the eerie charm of Kolmanskop, the Ghost Town of Lüderitz. Our adventure took us to extraordinary places like Omaruru Game Lodge, the historic Fort Sesfontein, Onguma Forest Camp by Etosha, Chobe River Lodge and the luxurious Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa.

Each stop brought unique experiences, from river cruises and wildlife encounters to peaceful desert evenings and wandering through Namibia’s hauntingly beautiful history, making this safari truly magical.
