Often mistaken for Zazu which is an African red-billed hornbill. The southern yellow-billed hornbill (Tockus leucomelas) is a hornbill found in southern Africa. Yellow-billed hornbills feed mainly on the ground, where they forage for seeds, small insects, spiders and scorpions. This hornbill species is a common and widespread resident of dry thornveldt and broad-leafed woodlands. They can often be seen along roads and water courses.

🐘 EYE TO EYE WITH A GIANT

There are wildlife encounters… and then there are moments like this.

Sitting on the bottom tier of the waterhole hide at Safarihoek Lodge, you’re right at ground level when the elephants come down to drink.

Just you, quietly watching as an elephant walks past so close it feels like you could almost reach out and touch it. 🐘

Feeling the sheer size of these incredible animals from ground level is something a photo or video simply can’t capture.

One of those unforgettable Namibia moments. 🇳🇦

🦁 A magical sunset moment at Safarihoek Lodge

There are moments on safari that you simply never forget…

While out on a game drive at Safarihoek Lodge, bordering the incredible Etosha National Park, we came across this lion resting peacefully.

Then, in the distance, a male started calling. 🔊🦁

Watching this lion slowly wake up, lift its head and listen carefully to the call was such a special moment. No rush, no crowds — just us, the lions and the sounds of the African bush.

This is what makes a safari in Namibia so unforgettable. 🇳🇦

Black-backed jackals are famously cheeky and opportunisti animals, often earning a "naughty" reputation for their bold antics around larger predators and human camps. Spotted here in Namibia 🇳🇦

Sometimes in the Caprivi, the elephants have the right of way! 🐘🐘🐘

Traffic comes to a standstill as this herd casually crosses the road, just another reminder that here, wildlife sets the pace.

Only in Namibia. 🇳🇦

We are driving through Etosha National Park today and witnessed this incredible elephant crossing the road. What an unforgettable sighting! 🐘

The elephants in Etosha are famous for their almost “ghostly” appearance. They earn this unique colour by taking mud and dust baths in the park’s mineral-rich, bright white clay and calcite soils. The dust sticks to their skin and dries under the scorching African sun, giving them their iconic pale look.
