Travel warning: Rains and floods Namibia

NAMIBIA is bracing for an extended period of excessive rainfall and severe flooding, affecting multiple regions across the country.
According to Namibia Meteorological Services, heavy rains are expected to cover the entire west coast, as well as central and southern Namibia. Authorities and experts are urging residents and travellers to exercise extreme caution and avoid taking unnecessary risks with floodwaters.
Several major rivers and roads have already been impacted, with some areas becoming completely inaccessible:
- Hoaruseb River.
- Hoanib River, past Khowarib.
- Uniab River near Terrace Bay past Palmwag.
- Koigab River on the C34 and C39 roads.
- Aba-Huab and Huab Rivers.
- Ugab River. Brandberg White Lady Lodge guests are stranded. They are reported to be safe.
- Omaruru River towards Omdel Dam.
- Swakopmund River.
- C14 road.
- Road to Waterberg is cut off due to flooding.
- Gravel roads around Otjiwarongo and Otavi pose a high risk.
- Hardap and Fish Rivers.
- Road to Deadvlei dunes area.
- Tsauchab River.
Authorities are warning that road conditions are hazardous, with many routes becoming impassable. Motorists are advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and to exercise extreme caution when driving on wet and slippery roads.
Safety remains the top priority as communities and emergency responders monitor the ongoing situation.
Stay alert, stay safe, and avoid floodwaters.
