𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The Stampriet Aquifer Basin covers a total of 6,5 million hectares in Namibia. According to a survey carried out by the NAU, there are approximately 1 300 farms or title deed areas in this basin area. A total of just over 555 000 ha covers the area of Aminuis and the remaining land includes village, church, commercial and land.

Note that the underground water can move much further and possibly include areas of Botswana and South Africa.

In contrast to this, the total hectares of land that fall under EPLs (exclusive prospecting licenses) for nuclear fuels, cover about 60% of this area. According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), some 43 uranium exploration areas are currently earmarked in the Stampriet basin area.

𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

The Namibian government today opposed the motion review of the court application by the Russian uranium company Head Spring Investments. This followed shortly after an urgent appeal by the Stampriet Aquifer Uranium Mining Association (SAUMA to Namibians and affected stakeholders for assistance with funding for legal expertise to fight the Russian uranium mining company in court.

The purpose of the motion is that the ministry of agriculture, water and land reform should review and set aside its decision to refuse a water-use permit to Head Spring Investments. The ministerial decision was based on the fact that the Russian company failed to prove its uranium extraction method, in-situ leaching (ISL), would not cause irreparable, widespread pollution and environmental destruction.

Maik macht sich mal wieder auf auf den Weg nach Deutschland und wird ein paar Vorträge halten und über "den Stand der Dinge" berichten. Der erste öffentliche Termin findet am 15.03.23, um 19.00 Uhr in dem Hotel zur Mühle statt. Er würde sich über ein zahlreiches Erscheinen sehr freuen.
