Ikorodu does not experience culture once a year.
It lives it, month by month, season by season.

From royal rites and ancestral justice to iron, rain, creativity, and celebration, these festivals form the cultural calendar of Ikorodu, a living system that has endured time, change, and modernity.

This is why documentation matters.
Because when you understand the rhythm, you understand the people.

On December 6th, Ikorodu came alive.

The Ikorodu Heritage Festival was more than a celebration, it was a gathering of memory, identity, and living tradition.

From ancestral rhythms to royal presence, from custodians to community, the festival reflected what heritage looks like when it is protected, practiced, and passed on.

This is culture in motion.
Rooted. Intentional. Alive.

🎬 The Ikorodu Documentary — Episode 1 is now live, exploring the stories, systems, and sacred histories behind these moments.

Policy meets people.
Tradition meets structure.
Heritage meets the future.

Moments from the Roundtable on the Heritage Conservation Management Framework (HCMF), where government, institutions, community representatives, and international partners came together to align on protecting Ikorodu’s living heritage, not just as memory, but as policy, practice, and legacy.

From documentation to governance, from community custodians to global frameworks, this convening marked a critical step toward sustainable heritage preservation rooted in local truth and collective responsibility.

Because heritage is not just what we inherit, it’s what we choose to protect, structure, and pass on.

Hosted with the participation of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Ikorodu Kingdom representatives, the SDGs Office, and the EU Global Diaspora Facility (EUDiF) implemented by ICMPD. In collaboration with Hatch ideas and IGA Nigeria Limited.

Meet the Custodians.
The guardians of Ikorodu’s memory, culture, and spiritual identity. Their voices, their shrines, their wisdom, these are the foundations of the heritage we are documenting for generations to come.

Today, we honor:
• Chief Moshood Onikan Rufai
• Chief Mrs. Olumade Kehinde
• Chief Karimu Ore
• Chief Kolawole Ogbe
• Chief Babalola Odunuga

These are the pillars of Ikorodu.
This is where the story begins.
