Here's a step-by-step guide for the M.Sc. by Research or Ph.D. route:
1. Gather All Required Documents
Before starting your application, make sure you have the necessary documents:
International Passport (Valid for at least six months)
Degree Certificate/Statement of Result
Academic Transcript
2-3 Recommendation Letters (Preferably one from an academic referee and one from your employer, if applicable)
Statement of Purpose/Research Proposal (Explain your research interests, why you chose the program, why the particular university, and why the UK. For Ph.D., a well-detailed research proposal is critical.)
Proof of English Proficiency (WAEC certificate with at least C6 in English, IELTS, or an English proficiency letter from your university)
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Tuberculosis (TB) Test – Required for Nigerian applicants. Testing centers are available in Lagos, Abuja, and Benin.
2. Search for Your Desired Course and University
Use the web to find M.Sc. by Research or Ph.D. programs in your area of interest.
If you don't have a specific school in mind, search for something like “UK universities offering M.Sc. by Research in [your field]” or “UK Ph.D. programs in [your research area].”
Review the course details and research opportunities.
For Ph.D., identify potential supervisors (faculty members whose research aligns with your interests).
Check for funding opportunities (scholarships, research grants, etc.) at the universities.
3. Contact Potential Supervisors (For Ph.D. Applicants)
Before applying for a Ph.D. program, it's crucial to contact potential supervisors to discuss your research interests and whether they are willing to supervise your project. This is a key step for Ph.D. applicants.
Write an email introducing yourself and briefly describing your research interests.
Attach your CV and a research proposal or abstract.
Wait for a response. If the supervisor agrees to support you, you can proceed with your application.
4. Application Process
For both M.Sc. by Research and Ph.D., the application process is similar:
Apply online through the university’s admissions portal.
Attach all required documents, including your research proposal (for Ph.D. applicants).
5. Conditional Offer and Accepting the Offer
After applying, you may receive a conditional offer that you will need to accept. This offer will outline any conditions you must meet before receiving an unconditional offer and a CAS (Certificate of Acceptance for Studies).

In London: £1,334/month for 9 months.

You need to show funds in your account for at least 28 days.
Make sure you have enough money to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the entire duration of your course.
8. Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and Visa Fee
Pay the IHS and visa fees (these vary based on course length and location).
Standard visa: £383, which takes 15 working days.
Priority or Super Priority visas are available for faster processing (at additional costs).
After paying, book your biometrics appointment at a visa center in Lagos or Abuja.
9. Submit Your Visa Application
Once your application and payments are complete:
Submit your visa application online, including biometrics.
Wait for a decision on your visa.
If approved, you will receive an email and can either pick up your visa or have it delivered to your address.
10. Accommodation
Find accommodation through university housing options or websites like Zoopla or SpareRoom.
It’s important to have accommodation arranged before leaving Nigeria.
11. Book Your Flight and Arrive in the UK
Once your visa is issued, book your flight to the UK.
Plan your travel to arrive in time for your program’s start date.
Upon arrival, register with the university and attend orientation (if applicable).
