Yes, a Nigerian citizen holding a valid Canadian passport can transit through the United States, but it's not guaranteed and depends on several factors.
The US Department of State (.gov) generally requires almost all travellers to have a visa, even if they are just passing through.
However, if you are eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), you may be able to transit without a visa.
Factors to consider:
1. Visa Waiver Program (VWP):
If you are eligible for the VWP, you can transit through the US without a visa, provided you meet the VWP requirements and obtain an ESTA.
2. C-1 Transit Visa:
If you are not eligible for the VWP, you will need a
C-1 Transit Visa to transit through the US.
This visa allows you to stop in the US for up to 29 days as long as you don't leave the immediate transit area or engage in tourism.
3. Canadian Citizenship:
While holding a Canadian passport, your Nigerian citizenship might still require a transit visa, even if you're only passing through.
4. Dual Citizenship:
If you hold dual citizenship (Canadian and Nigerian), you might be subject to enhanced screening and potentially face restrictions or denials based on your Nigerian citizenship.
