Steps to Renew Your Nigerian Passport Using the NIS App
1. **Download the NIS App**:
- Search for the "Nigeria Immigration Service" app in your smartphone’s app store (available on Android and iOS).
- Download and install the app.
2. **Create an Account or Log In**:
- Open the app and create an account if you don’t already have one.
- If you already have an account, simply log in.
3. **Select Passport Renewal**:
- Once logged in, navigate to the section for passport services.
- Select the option for passport renewal.
4. **Fill Out the Application Form**:
- Complete the online passport renewal form, providing accurate information.
5. **Upload Required Documents**:
- Prepare the necessary documents for renewal, which typically include:
- Your current Nigerian passport.
- Birth certificate.
- Any other identification documents as required.
- Upload these documents as prompted by the app.
6. **Payment**:
- Proceed to the payment section to pay the renewal fee online. Ensure to keep a record of the payment confirmation for your records.
7. **Choose Your Submission Method**:
- **Option A: Schedule an Appointment**:
- If you prefer, you can book an appointment for biometric capturing at the nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission. Follow the app’s instructions to select an available date and time.
- **Option B: Contactless Renewal**:
- If you opt for contactless renewal (if available), follow these steps:
1. **Obtain a Postal Order**: Go to the post office and get a postal order for £20.
2. **Get a Special Delivery Envelope**: Acquire a nylon special delivery envelope.
3. **Prepare Your Documents**:
- **Include the Following in the Envelope**:
- Your old passport.
- The £20 postal order.
- A plain paper with your house address, phone number, and email address.
4. **Seal and Send**: Seal the envelope and get a first-class delivery stamp at the post office. Write the Nigerian Embassy address on the envelope.
8. **Receive Confirmation**:
- After processing, you will receive confirmation regarding your passport renewal application. This may come via email or through the app.
9. **Track Your Application**:
- Use the NIS app to track the status of your passport renewal application. It typically takes less than 3 working days to receive your new passport.
