The Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad)

The Black Stone is located at the eastern corner of the Ka’bah and is one of the most well-known features of the Sacred House.

During Tawaf, pilgrims begin and end each circuit at the Black Stone. If possible, it is Sunnah to touch or kiss it; when this is not possible, pilgrims may simply point towards it.

The Black Stone is not worshipped. It is honoured because of its connection to the Ka’bah and the Sunnah of the Prophet.

It reminds us that true worship is not about the object itself, but about following Allah’s guidance with love and obedience.

May Allah grant us the opportunity to stand before the Ka’bah and perform Tawaf with sincere hearts. Ameen.

What Makes the Ka'bah So Special?

The Ka'bah is not just a building, it is Allah's Sacred House, a place of worship and a destination for millions of Muslims performing Hajj and Umrah.

Allah says: “Indeed, the first House established for mankind was that at Bakkah, blessed and a guidance for the worlds.
— Qur'an 3:96

Its greatest honour is that Allah chose it, made it sacred, and connected it to some of the greatest acts of worship in Islam.

Every year, Muslims from different nations, languages and backgrounds gather around the same House, answering the call of Allah.

What makes the Ka’bah so special?

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Prayer in Al-Masjid Al-Haram is one hundred thousand times better than prayer elsewhere.”
(Reported by Ibn Majah and Ahmad)

The Ka’bah is special because Allah chose it as the heart of the Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haram), the holiest place on earth. It is the destination of Hajj and Umrah and the place toward which Muslims turn in every prayer.

Its true honour is not in its stones or structure, but in the fact that Allah Himself made it sacred and blessed it for all mankind.
