When she sat down with me and I opened her file, I nearly laughed. Not at her. At the situation.

This woman had gathered every document known to man. I am talking bank statements, employment letter, hotel booking, and things I did not even know existed in a visa application. Her file was so heavy it could have paid its own visa fee.

This one broke my heart when they came to me.

A woman, her husband and her stepson applied for a UK visa together. The parents got approved. The boy was denied.

How do you explain that to a child?

The reason had nothing to do with money, documents or eligibility. It had everything to do with one letter nobody told them they needed; a consent letter from the boy’s biological mother confirming she knew her son was travelling out of Nigeria.

I had everything.

Six months of bank statements. An employment letter. A hotel booking. A return flight.

My visa was rejected in 12 days.
