Since February 1, 2020 the United Kingdom (UK) is not an EU member state any longer.
Therefore, some exemptions from the Schengen countries Airport Travel Visa (ATV)
requirement no longer apply for Nigerians and certain nationals.
Effective January 1st 2021, citizens of certain countries, including Nigeria, who are
holders of a British visa, long stay visa or a residence permit issued by the British
authorities will need to be in possession of an airport transit visa (ATV) to transit through
Frankfurt Airport.
At the same time the following exemptions still remain valid:
• Holder of a diplomatic passport
• Holder of a valid visa or residence permit issued by any Schengen state
• Holder of a visa valid for Member State of the EU or EEA, CAN, JPN or the US
• Holder of a residence permit issued by a Member State of the EU or EEA
• Holders of residence permit issued by the Principality of Andorra, CAN. JPN,
Republic of San Marino or the US, that guarantees unrestricted right of return
