Major domestic carriers operating in Nigeria, including Air Peace, Ibom Air, and United Nigeria Airlines, have adjusted their minimum base fares above the ₦200,000 threshold.

The sharp upward review follows a surge in aviation fuel (Jet A1) prices, which continue to hover between N1,900 and N2,000 per litre despite localised refinery interventions.

The new pricing structure applies to one-way economy class tickets across high-traffic domestic corridors, hitting business and leisure travellers on routes connecting Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Owerri, Uyo, and Kano.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) to N1,650 per litre from N1,750, in a bid to ease rising operational costs for airlines and stabilise fuel supply across Nigeria. The refinery also introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees for marketers and airline operators.

In addition, the company announced a shift from dollar-denominated pricing to a naira-based structure, a move expected to reduce foreign exchange pressure in the aviation sector. Industry stakeholders have long warned that soaring Jet A1 prices threaten airline sustainability and fare stability.

The new measures are projected to lower operating costs, improve efficiency, and potentially ease airfares for passengers as the sector continues to grapple with cost pressures.

Experience and frustration of a Nigerian ( called Dara) who travelled to Malaysia a short visit... has expressed frustration after allegedly being denied boarding to Tawau at Kuala Lumpur International Airport over a separate entry approval required for Sabah.

She described the situation as confusing, saying, “Imagine landing in Lagos and then being told you need another visa before traveling to Abuja.”

According to her, airport officials reportedly said the policy mainly affects Nigerians and Bangladeshis.

The US has imposed new travel restrictions on the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda due to an Ebola outbreak.

Non-US passport holders who have recently visited these countries will undergo additional screening before entering the US.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) implemented these measures on May 18, 2026.

The policy aims to protect public health in the US by minimizing the risk of Ebola entering the country from affected regions.

The government of Togo has announced the removal of visa requirements for nationals of all African countries, effective immediately, allowing holders of valid national passports to enter the country for stays of up to 30 days without a visa.

The announcement was made by Togo's Ministry of Security via its official X handle, with the government describing it as a "historic step in strengthening African integration."

Togo joins a growing list of African nations removing barriers to intra-continental movement. Rwanda recently implemented a similar visa-free policy — which prompted Nigeria to reciprocate with a 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan nationals earlier this month.
