To apply for a Canadian study visa, do the following:
1. Consult a professional (registered agent) and/or do proper research:
It’s ok to DIY but before anything, do proper research. There are decent agencies out there like , reach out for guidance or go through their pages for information.
Note that some agencies might do this at no cost while others might charge a service fee.
2. Check Eligibility:
Ensure you meet the requirements, including having a Letter/Notification of Acceptance (LoA/NoA) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada and confirm your offer letter is legit. If you’re going for a Diploma, ensure you have your Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) as well.
3. Gather Documents:
- Valid passport
- Letter/Notification of Acceptance (LoA/NoA)
- Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) - for programs like diploma, certifications etc
- Proof of sufficient funds
- Passport-sized photos (check IRCC for dimensions)
- Immigration medical exam (if required)
- Police clearance (if required)
- Statement of purpose or cover letter
- proof of sponsorship (if using a sponsor)
- Employment evidence
4. Create an Account:
Register on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website or use the “My Application” portal.
5. Complete the Application:
Fill out the online study permit form (IMM 1294) and any related forms or submit a paper application if preferred.
6. Pay the Fees:
Pay the application fee using the available methods on the IRCC website.
7. Submit Biometrics:
Book an appointment to provide biometrics (fingerprints and a photograph) at your local visa application center.
8. Attend an Interview:
You may be asked to attend an interview at a Canadian consulate or embassy. Be prepared and confident!
9. Wait for Processing:
The processing time can vary. Check the status of your application online.
9. Receive Your Visa
If approved, you’ll receive a study permit. Make sure to keep it with you when you travel to Canada.
