I planted 3 new trees today! Two avocados and the second mango trees were added to the line of mandarin, nance, and mango. That makes six fruit trees in an otherwise sparse field. Step by step, we will turn this into a tropical food forest!

Soil update: we are moving along nicely. Starting to bring the clay soil back to life by introducing organic matter, worms, and the basic ingredients to support the microbes and everything else that helps make a soil web successful. Transplanting seedlings today! The fence project is in full swing, but in the meantime I am going to grow these herbs and ornamentals in pots to keep them happy. For now, random horses, chickens, etc. wander through and eat all the greenery. Once we have a fence, we can find them some more permanent homes. Baby steps!

Major upgrade for the worms! We took them from their two humble 5 gallon buckets and upgraded to an extra large 40 gallon tote! We shredded cardboard and paper products and mixed in soil, sand, coco coir, aged manure, crushed egg shell and some compost. They are officially loving life in the new worm mansion. I can't wait to harvest all the castings in the coming weeks. Even with the small buckets, we have collected about half a garbage can full. Going to be using the castings to amend the soil for the baby trees, who are being planted soon. Stay tuned!

Can't wait to find space for these plants! One step closer to a tropical food paradise. 😁
