Brewing beer is a centuries-old tradition in Holland, going back to mediaeval monasteries, where monks would perfect their brewing recipes and methods. Nowadays, Amsterdam has plenty of excellent beer-related activities and places to visit. Take a tour of a former Heineken brewery, where you can learn all about one of Holland’s most famous exports, or explore the city’s thriving craft beer scene. There’s even a brewery in a windmill! And of course, don’t forget to enjoy a small but refreshing glass of beer in one of Amsterdam’s many cute canal-side bars.

Some of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Amsterdam can be found west of the city center. Westerpark attracts visitors and locals with its open green space, varied selection of bars and restaurants, and year-round events. When it comes to dining and shopping, Oud West abounds with eclectic eateries and opportunities to shop for clothing, homeware and gifts. Heading a little further west, Bos en Lommer and De Baarsjes are richly diverse in culture and atmosphere.

While in Amsterdam you can visit the Van Gogh Museum. Vincent van Gogh was a nineteenth-century Dutch Post-Impressionist painter. His work had a huge impact on twentieth-century art. He was little appreciated in his lifetime, selling just one single work. Today, the Van Gogh Museum draws some 2 million visitors each year.
