National Strike in the Netherlands – Wednesday, 9 September 2026
A nationwide 24-hour public transport strike is scheduled for Wednesday, 9 September 2026. The action has been called by the trade unions FNV and CNV in protest against proposed Dutch government cuts to social security and unemployment benefits.
Expected impact
* No NS train services are expected to operate nationwide throughout the day.
* Severe disruption is anticipated across the country's bus, tram, metro, and regional public transport networks.
* Public transport services in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and other major cities are expected to be significantly affected.
* Most international rail services, including Eurostar, ICE, Nightjet, and EuroCity, are expected to be unable to operate within the Netherlands.
* The main exception is the Airport Sprinter service between Amsterdam Centraal, Schiphol Airport, and Hoofddorp, which is currently expected to continue operating.
Bralux Staff will be working from home as not even the ferries connecting Amsterdam North with the centre of town are running.
