DESIGN MATTERS: Same Conditions, Different Outcome!

In our previous post dated the 11th of June, we shared our ClearPath Eccentric Reamer’s positive impact in conjunction with our RSS sleeve stab design on section deliverables. Today, we’re sharing a compelling follow-up example from a recent well within the same drilling campaign, underscoring how a simple but meticulously engineered change can significantly affect the drilling operation.

The shared image shows the difference between a conventional spiral design stabilizer and an EDP design RSS sleeve stabilizer as part of the same bottom hole assembly during the same run.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words . . .

The contrast between both items demonstrates the superior cuttings displacement and flow path the EDP design offers. A minor adjustment with a major impact, contributing to overall higher efficiencies by overcoming backreaming challenges and minimizing avoidable downtime. Such design features and benefits could prove even more critical when dealing with narrow-margin drilling applications.

CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA?
Unlike choosing between your favorite ice cream flavors, selecting a reamer is not a simple matter of personal taste or based on availability but rather an informed technical decision based on the specific application and challenges at hand.

Where your application might call for something more “engaging” with greater cutting action, an Active reamer might be more suitable. On the other hand, a Passive type reamer might prove more favorable if it prefers to minimize weight and energy interference to the bit while still having that extra security and reaming functionality in case of encountering pinch point(s) in the wellbore.
