I love this cafe/restaurant a lot, it used to be a cinema in the past. However after a new owner took over in 1968, it went downhill and in 1976 the place was closed. After this, the location was empty for a long time.
A bit later in history, a kitchen store was opened which sadly got rid of a lot of the architectural elements and vibe of the place. When the kitchen store closed, efforts were done to get the location back to it's original grandeur. And after a renovation, a new cafe was openened here in 2014.
As of 2026, this is now ''Café Restaurant Ceintuur Theater and recently renovated one more time, now to now include this layout, multiple levels (the top one for people who want to work on their laptop/or so on) and the other ones for cafe/restaurant oriented reasons. Great place, do check it out if you are ever in de Pijp.
