While we’re soaking up the summer sun and planning countryside adventures, our farmers are already thinking ahead to winter!

At many of our Feather Down farms, it’s silage-making time, a crucial job to ensure animals like cows and sheep have plenty to eat when the fields aren’t full of fresh grass. Think of it as nature’s version of pickling… but for grass! 🌱

Here’s how it works:
1. Grass is freshly cut from the fields
2. It’s raked into tidy rows to dry, ready for collection (sunshine is key!) ☀️
3. It’s then loaded into a pit and compacted by a tractor
4. Covered with sheets and weighted down (hello, old tyres!)
5. Left to ferment and become nutritious silage for winter feed 🐄🐑

There's so much to learn about the real rhythms of UK farm life!

A recent guest experience from Mount Pleasant Farm 🌾

“Our family had a fabulous time at Mount Pleasant Farm – Anna and Mike were so friendly and welcoming. Anna made sure we had everything we needed on arrival, later showing us around the farm, which is surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Our tent was very clean and comfortable, with cosy beds, fresh linen and an en suite shower and toilet – such a great addition! The tent had everything we needed for our 3-night stay, and the field was huge – perfect for our 3-year-old granddaughter to run and play in.

Thank you – we’ll be back!”
