Did you know Atlantic puffin ?
It is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic seabirds in the North Atlantic.
With its colourful bill and unmistakable appearance, it has become a favourite subject for wildlife photographers !
The Atlantic Puffin spends most of its life far from land, out on the open ocean. For months at a time, it disappears completely from the coastal cliffs where it is usually seen, only returning during the brief and intense breeding season.
In the water, it reveals a completely different side of itself — moving with surprising agility as it “flies” underwater, using its wings to dive and chase fish beneath the surface.
Even its feeding behaviour is remarkable, a puffin can return from a single trip carrying multiple small fish stacked neatly in its beak, ready to feed its chick.
And its iconic colourful bill is only temporary, becoming vibrant during the breeding season before fading again once it returns to life at sea.
They are always a joy to observe and photograph. 📸
We're already looking forward to seeing them again during our upcoming photography journey to the Shetland Islands 🇬🇧. Dates for our 2027 trip will be announced soon !
