N-Sea Group’s subsidiary UXOcontrol is proud to have been awarded a contract to perform various UXO related scopes on a UK Windfarm both for the array area as well as export cable route corridor.

The campaign is set to commence with pUXO Identification activities in early May, combining it as well with a few areas requiring non-ferrous UXO survey, all of which will be executed with the N-Sea Pathfinder keeping her busy well into July 2025.

Any required UXO Clearance will be executed in a separate campaign at a later date.

𝗡-𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝘄𝘆𝗻𝘁 𝘆 𝗠ô𝗿 𝗢𝗙𝗧𝗢🤝

N-Sea Group has been awarded a contract by Gwynt y Môr OFTO plc (GYM OFTO) for a further repair to one of the four export cables that form part of the transmission assets that it owns (which connect the Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm to the National Grid). Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm is a 576-Megawatt offshore wind farm located off the coast of Wales. The wind farm has 160 wind turbines of 3,6MW and has been in operation since 2013. GYM OFTO owns the transmission assets that connect Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm to the National Grid

The N-Sea scope includes replacing a 5km section of 132 kV export cable from the onshore transition joint bay (TJB) towards the offshore platform. This scope includes the pull ashore of the new cable through a horizontal directional drill (HDD) duct under a railway, dredging of the shore approach, jointing, and testing of the new cable and burial. N-Sea’s in-house Survey, UXO and Data Centre divisions will be engaged to engineer and deliver a new route for the new cable including as-built data upon completion.

Port Defender 2025 is underway – a live exercise focused on safeguarding critical offshore infrastructure.

In line with this, N-Sea and TenneT took the initiative to dive deeper into the topic of repair readiness and maritime security at the North Sea.

Last Tuesday, they hosted the Seminar on Public-Private Cooperation for Critical Infrastructure Repair Capacity in Wassenaar (NL).

Over 60 professionals from both public and private sectors came together to exchange insights, share best practices, and strengthen cooperation around offshore infrastructure resilience.

This is all part of a joint journey towards the Maritime Security Alliance, with collaboration at its core.

· Data fusion and sharing is essential
· Public-private cooperation is not optional, it’s urgent
· Preparedness starts early: spare parts, precontracting & simulations
· Repair readiness is vital for energy and societal resilience

The North Sea is getting busier, riskier, and more critical.

N-Sea’s trusted partner Neptune Marine is currently building a new, next generation, multi purpose shallow draft vessel for N-Sea’s cable installation and activities. The vessel is under construction in Poland and will transfer to The Netherlands in Q4 2025 for fitting and commissioning in Q2 2026.

The new built DP2 vessel, '𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮' will be dual fuel (methanol) prepared, equipped with a 25t offshore knuckle boom crane, mooring system and can accommodate up to 99 people.

The deck spread has been designed and procured by N-Sea, considering valuable lessons learned by the N-Sea team over the last 15 years, in cable repair and installation on Offshore Wind and Interconnector projects. The 4,500t carousel, 15t tensioner, quadrant handling system and shutes have been designed to handle cables with minimum bending radius till 5mtr. Installation of the deck spread will start in Q1 2026 by the N-Sea mobilisation team in The Netherlands, managed from the new offshore supply base and logistic centre in IJmuiden.

Due to the combination of its mooring system, DP2 capabilities and beaching capacities, the vessel will be able to operate year round in both very shallow and deep water conditions, on interconnector, export and inter-array cable projects.

Last week Prysmian, the global cable solutions provider leading the energy transition and digital transformation, announced a 7-year framework agreement with N-Sea Group. The agreement provides an effective solution to subsea cable maintenance and repairs. This service goes beyond European Commission ambitions for submarine cable protection, with Prysmian and N-Sea delivering a market-led solution. This solution will complement Prysmian’s proprietary monitoring solutions and its overall Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair (IMR) capabilities – bringing to the market the most effective solution to submarine cable maintenance and repair. The announcement goes beyond the recent request of the European Commission to ensure the safety of critical energy and telecommunications infrastructure, by providing the first market-led solution.

Under the agreement, N-Sea will deliver a full suite of repair and maintenance services for export and interconnector cables including a vessel that is fully dedicated to inspection, maintenance and repair operations. This unique capability will ensure the fastest and most effective response to any disruption. Under the terms of the agreement, there will be dedicated project management & engineering services, our specialised repair vessel CURO and a mobile subsea cable repair spread ready to be mobilised from our newly built Operations Support Base in IJmuiden (NL) to any additional vessel of opportunity required.

This agreement will ensure that customers, and the public, will benefit from enhanced energy security, bolstering the resilience of this critical infrastructure, addressing prevention, detection, response, and reinstatement.

N-Sea is proud to provide this solution to Prysmian to ensure the long-term safety of undersea cables. Our capabilities are fully in house developed, to ensure preventive and reactive maintenance services in a unique and effective fashion. The agreement allows Prysmian to offer an unique one-stop-shop solution for the global high voltage submarine cable market and enables them to provide drastically reduced repair times.
