Thursday update! There’s a lot happening and so here goes….. first of all, we are sad to see has closed. However, vinyl lovers will be pleased to hear that is moving from the Edisonstraat to the Rewind Records location . There’s going to be a grand opening on Saturday 24/10 with on the turntables. We will definitely be dropping by. Next are opening on Tuesday 27/10. They are a favourite of ours and we love that cosy feeling in a snug dome with lots of tasty food. Then on Friday 30/10 is opening , just in time for Sint and Father Christmas to do their shopping. The same day is opening on the Hermanus Boexstraat with all sorts of good looking eye wear. Also, on the Rechtestraat is scheduled to open on 5/11 and a new shop is opening on the Demer on 13/11. .rubens and are also both opening in November and we’re really looking forward to that! If you’re into Asian food then you might like to know that World Dumpling on the Nieuwstraat is now Shanxi Cuisine Restaurant…I think that completes our round up of Eindhoven food! Finally, .nl is opening a second studio on the Vestdijk, but we don’t have a date. Consider yourself updated on city centre openings!

Why shouldn’t waiting be a pleasant experience? It’s a pause in our busy lives , a time for rest and reflection, an opportunity for people watching and a chance to engage with our surroundings. That’s what is telling us with “Waiting for a bus” , the project on the Demer. It was commissioned by and and we hope it remains after DDW is over - we saw so many children turning somersaults on it, but of course we couldn’t photograph them for reasons of privacy 🙂.

Eindhoven CS is a portal to the city and embodies the development of Eindhoven from a provincial town to an international tech hub. It’s also a stylish building incorporating some charming details…. the story begins in 1866 when a railway line was built to connect Eindhoven with Hasselt in Belgium. It was located in Woensel and was a factor in the choice of Eindhoven by Gerard and Anton Philips. As Philips - and Eindhoven - grew, the station was upgraded in 1916 by GW van Heukelom. Then in 1944, after the centre of Eindhoven had been bombed in WW2, there was an opportunity to relocate and rebuild the station. In 1956 Koen van der Gaast designed the present station. Although it looks like a transistor radio, the radio in fact came after it. In 2013 there was a €70 million overhaul and now this protected monument from Eindhoven’s post war reconstruction period faces another renovation. Additional platforms, the Gender flowing by, six thousand new homes, an underground bus station are just some of the projects taking place around Eindhoven CS. We love the station as it is now (just take a look at our profile pic) but we expect that in the future it will be at the heart of the city instead of dividing it, in the centre of multi modal transport infrastructure and a thriving commercial area which also offers housing for many Eindhoven citizens. It’s those coincidental encounters that make so rewarding! We went to to check out the new restaurant - yes, it’s up and running, is reasonably priced and was quite busy - and then went on to hear about “It’s not about waste”. We felt very enthusiastic about this project - a Dutch / Indonesian collaboration led by , and . was an initiator and an Indonesian start up called Wahi and Dutch packaging company Kompak ate involved. The project sees recycling as a collective, social activity that should benefit the community rather than an individual responsibility. It is an international project and focuses on the circular economy. So we came to see a restaurant and ended up with a new perspective on recycling!

We have always loved the amazing mural “Echoes of Harmony” on the side of and so we were very interested in the exhibition in today. It showcases the work of and we really appreciated the guided tour we got today from Niels van Swaemen and Kasparov van Leek of Studio Giftig. Giftig means “toxic” and when Niels and Kasparov started working they used an old shed to store their spray cans. On the door was the warning “Giftig”. The name stuck and twenty years later their work has become widely known and is generally admired. Their breakthrough came with the wall art in but you can see it and as well as locations nationally and internationally. It was great to see how the process of painting a wall takes place - absolutely no AI involved - and we have even more respect for Studio Giftig’s work now we know more about it. Their exhibition “Wall Stories “ is on until the end of November and there is a book of the same name documenting the work of Studio Giftig. Well worth a visit!

Navigators on and off duty🙂…..but this weekend it’s definitely all hands on deck! Visitors from all over the world will be arriving in Eindhoven Dutch Design Week | DDW and often they need some help finding their way. We will be checking out the design locations in the city centre - there’s lots to see - and popping in Temporary Art Centre | TAC to see the new restaurant . We really want to look round De Bergen Eindhoven to see The Archives - a trip down DDW’s memory lane. We will also look in at Wall Stories M by Muziekgebouw Eindhoven to see the exhibition of Studio Giftig artwork - of course an enormous Studio Giftig mural is on the wall just outside Muziekgebouw Eindhoven . We also want to introduce ourselves Time Mission and A C T U A L C O U T U R E ® , both just opened so there’s lots to do! See you in the city!

Lots happening in the city! Tomorrow (Friday 16-10) opens above Starbucks on the Hermanus Boexstraat. There are 25 missions, it’s a bit like an escape room and also a video game and you play in teams. You keep moving, it’s high energy and we will definitely be visiting! Round the corner on the Demer looks good to go. It stocks premium men’s business and leisure wear. The Actual Couture philosophy is Presence, Confidence and Accessibility for the well dressed man so we will be checking out the store as soon as it opens. starts on Saturday and is opening it’s restaurant facilities too. You can drop by from 12.00-21.00 any day of the week - we’re really pleased this iconic location is back in business. In addition, during DDW is opening Kazerne Bar Bistro for food and drinks - the Kazerne is closely associated with design events so it’s a logical step. Lots more in the pipeline - we have noticed they are under construction and can be reserved from Tuesday 27 October. Further, opens on 30th October and .rubens opens in November. We can’t wait for that one!
