In our latest blog, James Shooter, Visual Storyteller at Rewilding Europe, joins the Rewilding Sweden team and WildSweden in the Nordic Taiga for a rewilding week along the Hjuksån River: packrafting wild waterways, camping under the stars, and returning gravel to a riverbed stripped bare by decades of industrial timber transport.

🐟 The group also released 65,000 brown trout fry into freshly restored waters, giving them new spawning grounds among gravel beds rebuilt by hand.

Two nights by the water, meals cooked over the fire, and days spent on hands-on restoration work that supports life in and around the river and forest 🌱 🐟

Alongside the practical work, there’s room for slower things too: forest walks, local stories by the fire, listening to the river, and having real conversations about rewilding and what it means to care for a place.
