There’s something new waiting on the table of our pilot bunker: a very special book. From the very beginning, it’s been our dream to give each Cocondo bunker its own coffee table book — with its own unique story.

Thanks to funding from the Provincie Zuid-Holland and Erfgoedlijn Atlantikwall, the first edition has now become reality: JI, the story of the telephone bunker during the war, in times of peace and how it was transformed, told in 177 richly illustrated pages with historical photographs and maps. The book also explores the Atlantikwall as a whole, and particularly the use of these bunkers after the war by the local population.

For now, the book is available only when visiting the bunker, and its in Dutch. But we hope to print an English translation in the near future.

Over the past winter, Vinetaduin underwent a small ecological reset. Overgrowth caused by nitrogen pollution and invasive species was cleared. During the work, military heritage reappeared—gun emplacements and trenches are now visible again and part of a more dynamic dune landscape.

To help keep the area open, Highland cattle have been introduced. For now, they roam only the southern part of Vinetaduin, but soon they’ll make their way to the pilot bunker area too. So there’s a good chance you won’t be the only one enjoying your salad on the terrace!

Looking for: A (temporary) home for our Cocondo Collection

At the start of Cocondo, we partnered with Rotterdam-based designer Remko Verhaagen to see if we could create our own design collection. Showcasing how Cocondo can tell its historical and ecological stories through design.
The first set of furniture debuted at the Dutch Design Week and Object Rotterdam.
Unfortunately, further development is currently on hold, and it feels like such a waste for these unique designs to just gather more dust in storage. That’s why we’re looking for a partner who can use or display the collection—whether in an office, hotel, or even a private home. We’re open to any form of collaboration!

Hey, it’s strawberry season! Check out our story for a special last minute and sweet 25-35% discount for this first sunny week of April.

Still looking for a place to stay and eat strawberries for breakfast in the coming months? We just have a few spots left! And otherwise, also September is still rich in strawberries. And it’s actually one of the nicest months to enjoy our bunker (and a still warm sea).

New chairs added to the pilot-bunker!
The Conscious Chair by Mater Design. Originally designed in 1958 by renowned Danish furniture designers and architects Børge Mogensen and Esben Klint, this chair is made from FSC-certified oak and an innovative circular material called Matek®, which in this case is derived from coffee waste.

Given that our bunker is filled with (local) oak-wood and plenty of coffee is enjoyed here, we found the Conscious Chair to be the perfect match. Now, you can enjoy your coffee while sitting in these chairs, knowing that waste can truly have a second life.

We are very thankful to Mater Design for sponsoring us once again, just as they did in 2021 when we had the chance to obtain the Ocean collection for our terrace. We are proud to present such beautiful examples of sustainable and circular design to our guests.

Win een weekend in onze bunker tijdens Bunkerdag!
Het vereist alleen wat fantasie. En wellicht inspiratie voor ons.

WIN een weekend weg in Cocondo van vrijdag 24 t/m zondag 26 mei en twee toegangstickets voor Bunkerdag!

Wist je dat na de bevrijding honderden bunkers langs de kust zijn hergebruikt als vervangende woonruimte of vakantiewoning? Veel van de bunkers dragen dus niet alleen verhalen van bezetting, maar ook van bevrijding en wederopbouw.

Cocondo is een concept waarmee bunkers opnieuw worden getransformeerd tot vakantiewoning. En dan helemaal ecologisch en circulair, met als doel: een netwerk van betekenisvolle verblijven langs de kust. De pilot van Cocondo ligt in Hoek van Holland .

"Fietsend heen, slapen in een bunker, metro terug: wordt Hoek van Holland het Bloemendaal van Rotterdam?"

Teun van den Ende van Vers Beton kwam bij ons op visite om te schrijven over Cocondo binnen de 'hippe driehoek' van Holland.
