Inclusive urbanism – creating inclusive urban spaces by Placemaking:
a Public Kitchen Table Conversation
Wednesday 20 November 2019 17:00 – 19:00
LAB ArtEZ Zwolle
Rhijnvis Feithlaan 50, Zwolle
L.0.01
Are you interested in creating inclusive urban spaces? Can we strengthen the connection between people and the places they share? Can we facilitate creative patterns of use of space? How can artists contribute to improve public spaces by co-envisioning and co-creating with the neighbourhood residents, entrepreneurs and other local parties? How can we, while doing so, pay attention to the physical, cultural and social identities that define a space and it’s users?
During this evening we dive into the methodology of Placemaking. Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community.
At this Kitchen Table Conversation, Anna Dekker of Placemakers will introduce you to the methodology of Placemaking, afterwards we will hold an interactive session to experience Placemaking.
Have a seat at the table (with PIZZA and drinks), dive into the interesting world of placemaking, and exchange ideas about inclusive urban spaces with Placemaker Anna Dekker, the students of Corpo-real and others.
Anna Dekker is a team member of Placemakers Amsterdam and co-founder of Studio Lonk. With a background in sociology, urban planning and a MA ‘City Design and Social Science’ (LSE), Anna always reflects on the dialectics between the social and physical organization of cities. As a Placemaker, Anna connects large themes to small scale interventions that combine the expertise of citizens and professionals. Anna is furthermore co-founder of spatial design Studio LONK, co-founder and board member of non-profit Stichting Thuismakers Collectief and the academic director of the UvA summer programme ‘The Everyday City and Beyond’.
The evening is co-hosted by students of the interior architecture master Corpo-real who use placemaking as a way of site specific research in the neighbourhood of Diezepoort. They aim to provide local stakeholders with the necessary tools to develop their own neighbourhood.About Kitchen Table ConversationsArtEZ Studium Generale invites students and teachers of ArtEZ to participate in the Kitchen Table Conversations. The aim of the Kitchen Table conversations is to exchange ideas about how we as artists and people can live and work with and relate to other people in our society. We reflect for example on the notions of home and belonging. Which stories are related to these notions. What makes a home in- or exclusive? We will also look at the aim for diversity and inclusion within ArtEZ as our educational ‘home’.The Kitchen Table Conversations is an ongoing platform for reading, sharing, researching. It will bring thoughts, questions, texts, objects, performances, door k***s, voices, encounters, cartographies etc. We welcome everyone who wants to hear new ideas and share their own thoughts. The Kitchen Table Conversations are organized by the Master Education in Arts, Corpo-real master Interior Architecture, Teacher Department Theatre, Mister Motley online Magazine and ArtEZ studium generale. It’s base is Zwolle.
