As the sun reached its peak activity in a cycle known as the solar maximum, whispers spread among stargazers and aurora hunters: this was the year to see the Northern Lights in all their glory. In Norway, the Lofoten Islands—an otherworldly stretch of peaks rising from the Arctic Ocean—were preparing to put on their greatest show.

By October, excitement simmered in the quiet fishing villages that dot the islands. Astronomers warned of intense solar winds that would bombard Earth’s magnetic field, creating an explosion of colors across the sky. Locals and travelers alike filled the fjord shores, bundled against the brisk air, eyes turned northward.

Then, it began: faint swirls of green emerged, slowly growing, twisting, and dancing across the sky. The lights were alive, shifting and cascading from green to purple to fiery red, each flicker more vibrant than the last. Cameras clicked, but no image could fully capture the surreal beauty unfolding overhead.

One traveler, awestruck, whispered to a local, “Is it always this intense?”

The local just shook his head, eyes shining. “Not like this. Not since I was a boy, maybe.”

As the night deepened, the aurora pulsed across the entire horizon, reaching a crescendo so bright it cast shadows over the jagged peaks. The Lofoten Islands, bathed in the light of the universe, had truly become the best spot on Earth to witness nature’s own fireworks, gifted by the sun’s powerful dance.

It was a night that would be remembered long after the solar maximum faded, a fleeting moment in the Arctic that reminded everyone just how connected we all are to the cosmos.

Down the Alley pt1 - US, 2024

Stormchasing. Epic supercells and twisters under a crazy colorful alien looking cloud. An unbelievable spectacle of beauty and drama…

Or, you find yourself completely sucked in by rain, a violent tornado is right around the corner, you cant see a thing and your heart is raging in a mix of fear and excitement. You ask yourself «what the f am i doing here?!» The colours are eerie and you feel like youre in a zombie movie. Everything has a greenish tint…

Thats more common than people think when talking about stormchasing. So i did a project on what it actually looks like from inside the car during these chases.

Here is part 1.

In the Spotlight - Norway, 2024

This is Kopptinden. A majestic peak rising 1276 mas. But it rarely gets any attention since because of its neighbour. When your neighbour is tall and famous and even the national mountain of Norway, its no wonder poor Kopptinden is overlooked.

But for a brief moment it outshined its neighbour. Stetinden was reduced to a being a supporting act, framing Kopptinden .

Taken on our Secrets of Arctic Norway workshop.
