Snow, food and different forests in this set of pics from our Hokkaido, Japan trip. Both nature and culture are both amazingly similar and different to what we are used to in Scandinavia. Some mentioned huge crowds of western skiers and tourists in Hokkaido, but that depends on where you go. One morning there was a huge line to the lift, we chose to skinn. In the restaurants, translation apps were used or a random Japanese visitor with some English skills helpfully tried to explain what is what, and never did we see any crowds. In general, a truly authentic experience, including both the skiing, nature and culture.

We will organise these trips again next year, so let me know if you are interested

One of the better steep and deep days in the forests in central Hokkaido. The snow in Hokkaido did make a huge impression on me. It stays good for so long (for those who can find the untracked), it is so light, there is so much and even though there still is avalanche danger at times, mostly it is so much easier to handle than the PWLs/hard slabs that usually appear in Scandinavia and the Alps. There will be some more posts, with more sunshine pics, food and such, but i had to start with what we were here for, powder skiing at its best.

abisko 110 under foot is a great choice for touring in Hokkaido, if your choosing between lengths, the longer one is nice although it makes the kick turns in the forests a notch harder.

Järjestämme vapaalasku reissun Japanin pohjoissaareen, Hokkaidoon talvella -26. Viikko 5 on loppuunmyyty, viikolla 6 (1-7.2) on 4 paikkaa vapaana ja mikäli saadaan porukka kasaan on sekä viikko 4 (18-24.1) että viikko 7 (8-14.2) mahdollisia. Aloitetaan ja lopetetaan Sapporossa, ja matkalla lasketaan sekä Nisekossa että saaren keskiosissa, Daisetsuzan kansallispuiston alueella. Hinta n. 1850€(min 4henk.) sisältäen opastuksen, logistiikan paikanpäällä sekä yöpymiset. Lyngen Exp-ice climbing meeting is coming again 4-7 December. Last year we arranged a meeting for ice climbers at the darkest time of the year. A nice event where we meet, climb ice and much more. Last year we had presenting climbing big routes as a father and "normal" 9-5 worker and presenting some amazing routes, areas and first accents in Northern Norway. Eating, drinking and sleeping is arranged at the cosy , with 10+ ice climbs just behind the lodge. The event is for both experienced climbers and those new to the sport, there will be some techniques clinics, workshops and possibility to climb everything from short and easy top rope to long hard multi pitch. Price is 4900nok for the whole event and 3900 for friday-sunday, including lodging with half board, sauna, presentation of the ice climbing areas and routes, clinics&workshops, presentations in the evenings and of course inspiring company!
