This winter, there has been less snow than usual in the mountains, and the road is expected to open as planned on May 21 at 12:00 without any issues.

Planning a trip to Kjerag this summer? Here is a new way to reach the mountains. ⛰️🌊

Before the new Lysefjord tourist ferry officially opens for the season, Rødne is inviting local residents to a free test trip from Lauvvik to Lysebotn on Thursday 14 May.

The ferry route takes you through the Lysefjord, past dramatic mountains, waterfalls and small fjord communities, before arriving in Lysebotn — the gateway to Lysevegen and the road up towards Kjerag.

This is a great chance to try the new ferry before the summer traffic begins. On board, you can enjoy the fjord views from the sun deck or lounge, with coffee included and simple food available from the kiosk.

Test trip details:

Departure from Lauvvik: 09:30
Stops at Forsand, Songesand and Flørli
Arrival in Lysebotn after approx. 2.5 hours
Free trip, but advance booking is required
Limited capacity — first come, first served

From Lysebotn, you can return by ferry or continue by road up Lysevegen, with its 27 hairpin bends, towards Øygardstøl / Kjerag Parking and Sirdal.

Important: if you want to take the ferry back to Lauvvik, remember to book the return journey as well.

From 15 May to 30 September, the tourist ferry will run twice daily in both directions and can carry passengers, cars, buses, campervans, motorcycles and bicycles.
