D-Day Normandy, France 6th June 1944 - The day that turned the tide. Eighty-one years ago, on 6th June 1944, thousands of Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in France. It was the largest amphibious invasion in history, and it changed the course of World War II. This military operation was the beginning of the end of N**i occupation in Western Europe. The D-Day still matters today.

Hold on to the feathers – My wild ostrich ride in South Africa! While driving the stunning Garden Route in 1995, I never expected to end up on the back of a giant bird - but that’s exactly what happened in Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. Ostriches are large and strong enough to carry a human. Ostriches can usually carry a weight up to 90 kilograms. But many farms have a weight limit of 70 kilograms to avoid excess strain on the ostriches. Wish I had a helmet on my head and control of the nerves in my belly. Anyway I took the chance to climb onto this feathered rocket. It was fortunately not the biggest bird at the farm – just a small female that apparently looked pretty tame. Took my grip on the wings and placed my legs inside their wings and pressed inward – so I clung for my dear life as it took off like a rocket on two legs. For an amateur like me, there is no way to control the bird in the least. No gear to adjust the speed. No steering wheel. No brakes. Just feathers in my face and wild flapping wings. I wondered how long I will sit on the back, and how I should escape afterwards. I was fully aware that no one would catch me from falling. My little bit experience from riding horses was not at any help at all. As I learned quickly: you can guide a horse, but with an ostrich - you are just a passenger. It goes where it wants - and very fast. It was both fun and scary. I was especially glad that the run was flightless: Ostrich is the world’s largest bird and their wings are too small - these are some of several reasons why they can’t fly. Instead, it can run incredibly fast, reaching speeds of up to 70-80 km/h over short distances, making it one of the fastest animals in Africa. I loved every few second of it. This was my way to shake up my adventure in wild South Africa. Most people last just a few seconds on an ostrich back. It was the same for me, but those few seconds felt for like forever. We also attended an ostrich race. I think it`s best for my health to leave ostrich riding to professionals in the future.

The assassination in Sarajevo that set the world on fire. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife, Sophie, took place on 28th June in 1914, near the historic Latin Bridge - Latinska ćuprija - in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was the catalyst that triggered a chain reaction among the major European powers, leading to World War I.

Palace of Parliament, Bucharest – A massive symbol of a dark past. Towering over the Romania`s capital Bucharest, the Palace of Parliament is a gigantic building that both impresses and unsettles. It is the third largest civilian administrative building in the world, even larger than the Pentagon. But behind its impressive size is a story of oppression, waste, and ambition, making it one of the most controversial buildings ever constructed.

I delved into the mystical heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, exploring the labyrinthine tunnels beneath the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids in Visoko. These are called the Ravne Tunnels. Curious and open to possibility, I entered to experience the mystical energy and the allure of rumoured healing powers for myself. As I descended deeper underground, I found myself growing sceptical of the information shared by my local guide. Enthusiasts of the site suggest that these tunnels form an ancient labyrinth, potentially dating back thousands of years, and speculate that they were excavated by a highly advanced civilization responsible for constructing the nearby "Pyramid of the Sun." They also believe that the monoliths within the tunnels emit beneficial vibrations, that the water here is exceptionally pure, and that the absence of negative radiation might have made this location a place of healing. However, scientific evidence to support these claims is limited, and mainstream archaeology does not generally recognize the Bosnian Pyramid Complex or the Ravne Tunnels as being of ancient origin.

Just eight years after the Olympics ended in Sarajevo (1984), the bobsled track was turned into an artillery position by the Bosnian Serbs. The bobsled track today seems to be almost completely left to the nature. The start of the track was on a 1108 metres altitude at the Trebevic mountain and was over 1300 metres long.

Visited the amazing "Tunnel of Love" in Sarajevo. There I got a glimpse into the hardships and bravery of those who lived through the siege. It was constructed during the Siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995. This tunnel was a lifeline for the besieged city, allowing food, war supplies, and humanitarian aid to reach the people trapped inside. It connected the Sarajevo neighborhoods of Dobrinja and Butmir, running beneath the Sarajevo Airport. Built by the Bosnian Army and civilians, often working under extremely dangerous conditions. It was a symbol of resilience and survival during one of the darkest periods in Sarajevo's history.

Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA - A journey into earth's timeless wonder. Awestruck by the views. Standing on the rim, I could gaze for kilometres in every direction, immersed in the vast expanse of canyons, plateaus, and towering cliffs. The canyon’s immense depth unveiled layers of rock, each with distinct colours and formations. The sunlight shifted throughout the day continuously change the canyon's appearance. This gave the already majestic landscape a new level of magnificence. As I descended into the canyon, it felt like stepping back through time, with each layer telling a story shaped over millions of years. Along my hike, the Colorado River often appeared far below, winding through the depths, its presence reinforcing the overwhelming scale and timeless grandeur of the canyon. I wondered how Indian tribes felt about living there. They have long histories in the area, with deep spiritual and cultural connections to the canyon, and some still maintain their traditional ways of life.

The Iguazu Falls gave me a feeling stepping into a hidden paradise. My journey there was inspired by the 1986 film The Mission and the soundtrack "On Earth as It Is in Heaven" composed by Ennio Morricone for this movie. The sheer scale of the falls, with their massive flow of water cascading down from great heights, created a sense of raw natural power. Its original name is “Big Water”. The Iguazu Falls are the largest waterfall system in the world. This natural wonder comprises around 275 individual waterfalls that span nearly 3 kilometres, and with heights varying from 60 meters to 82 meters. I heard roaring sound of the water crashing below and observed the mist that rose up around me. When the sun rose, I could see vibrant rainbows formed in the mist above the water. Iguazu Falls is surrounded by lush, subtropical rainforest, and butterflies, and birds such as toucans flying around. Walked along the pathways for taking a closer look at the "Devil's Throat" - one of the most powerful sections of the falls. It`s an impressive U-shaped cascade that plunges 82 meters (269 feet).
