Did you know that the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony takes place in Oslo? ;)

Unlike the other Nobel Prizes (which are awarded in Sweden), Norway is a country where the award ceremony of the Nobel Peace Prize is hosted. Alfred Nobel decided that it would be best if the Peace Prize would be awarded in a country that wouldn't be biased towards the candidates. Considering that Norway (which was in a union with Sweden back then) didn't have its own army and diplomatic service, Nobel viewed it as an ideal candidate for this role.

The award ceremony takes place annually on 10th December in Oslo City Hall – the very building you can set foot in on your next trip to the Norwegian capital. :)

The modern neighborhood of Bjørvika represents the dramatic, new face of Oslo, where the city has truly embraced its relationship with the water. This area has been transformed into one of the most exciting and architecturally striking waterfront hubs in Europe.

Bjørvika is home to the stunning Oslo Opera House, which appears to float on the water and invites you to walk right up its slanted roof for sweeping views of the fjord. For art lovers, the magnificent new Munch Museum is located here, housing the world's largest collection of works by Edvard Munch, including The Scream.

Oslo Opera House is an extraordinary building that has quickly become the city's symbol. The edifice was completed way ahead of schedule and about 50 million dollars under budget. ;)

The building itself signifies a glacier floating in the Oslofjord, and you can get to its roof without actually entering the edifice. In this photo, you can see the view from half-way to the top. :)

If you plan to visit Oslo this November, one of the best things you can do is catch the Fjord Oslo Light Festival. Every year in November, Aker Brygge turns into a spectacular light scene in the evening for four days straight!

Fjord Oslo is a fantastic light show presented by renowned artists, offering a powerful and inclusive experience to everybody.

These light shows are not merely a beautiful experience pleasant to the eyes (even though they are that, too); they touch on important and urgent subjects, thus inviting the audience for a broader discussion.

However, the dates for this year's show are not yet officially published. We recommend checking the official Visit Oslo website or the Fjord Oslo website for updates on the confirmed schedule.

The Fram Museum is one of the most remarkable and impressive museums in the Norwegian capital. This immersive institution is home to the famous namesake vessel, which was used in legendary expeditions by notable Norwegian explorers to the North and South Poles.

Visitors can step aboard this unique vessel, explore its cabins, and head to another room to witness the Gjøa — the ship Roald Amundsen used to cross the Northwest Passage.

Oslo Cathedral, known among the locals simply as Dom, is the main church of Oslo. Located on Karl Johans gate, the city's central two-laned street, it is a popular cultural and religious attraction. :)

After the great fire decimated Oslo in 1624 and the city was moved westwards, the previous church fell into disrepair and decay. A new cathedral was needed, and after a short-lived church had burned down 50 years after construction, the current Oslo Cathedral was built.

Oslo is an impressive city with beautiful, cozy streets where you can get lost for days simply roaming and taking in splendid architecture. ;) So, It's indeed tough to select just a few attractions in the city.
But if you have got minimal time in Oslo, here are the places you must absolutely see:

Royal Palace. Located in the city's heart, the majestic palace was built for the monarch of Sweden and Norway. Karl Johans gate, the central street, is named after that monarch.

City Hall. A monumental red-brick building was in construction for three decades and was completed only after the end of WWII. The new city hall rejuvenated that once was an impoverished area of the town. Today, you can enter it for free and appreciate the beautiful artworks inside.

Opera House. An ultramodern, dazzling building that signifies a glacier floating in the Oslo Fjord, the newly constructed edifice quickly became Oslo's landmark. Don't miss this opportunity to get to its roof, which you can access without actually entering the building.

Vigeland Park. The Vigeland installation (pictured) is the world's largest open-air installation, featuring 212 sculptures and a huge monolith in the center. It is located in Frogner Park, and entry is free for everyone.

Akershus Fortress. Harbored on the shore of the Oslo Fjord, this medieval castle has guarded the city of Oslo for centuries and has never been conquered by force. And, naturally, it has become an iconic landmark of the city.

First opened in 2008 (and completed under budget), the ultramodern Oslo Opera House has quickly become one of the icons of the Norwegian capital. This extraordinary building signifies a glacier floating in Oslofjord, and you can reach its roof without even entering the lobby. By the way, you can get spectacular views from the top of the building!

Since the time of its opening, many rock and metal bands have performed in this opera house, including the renowned Norwegian metal band Satyricon. The building’s acoustics make this place ideal for metal bands, so don’t miss a chance if you have time and opportunity to catch such a performance here. If you don’t have any tickets, you can enter the lobby for free at any time.
