Thailand always demands bilateral negotiations with Cambodia without allowing a third party to participate. However, during bilateral talks, Thailand and Cambodia have never been able to fully reach an agreement. When Cambodia wants to involve a third party or invite the international community to participate in finding a solution together, Thailand always objects. Thailand has also unilaterally canceled MOUs with Cambodia. Thailand often acts according to its own wishes without mutual agreement.
Thailand krever alltid bilaterale forhandlinger med Kambodsja uten å tillate en tredjepart å delta. Men under bilaterale forhandlinger har Thailand og Kambodsja aldri klart å komme helt til enighet. Når Kambodsja ønsker å involvere en tredjepart eller det internasjonale samfunnet for å finne en felles løsning, protesterer Thailand alltid. Thailand har også ensidig opphevet MOU-avtaler med Kambodsja. Thailand gjør ofte ting etter eget ønske uten gjensidig enighet.
Sihasak Phuangketkeow has urged Cambodia to stop using international forums to attack Thailand, warning that the move could damage efforts to rebuild trust between the two neighbours.
The foreign minister said Cambodia’s remarks at the UNSC went against a previous understanding to resolve bilateral issues through dialogue, not global escalation.
He also stressed that future maritime boundary talks should move under the UNCLOS framework after Thailand cancelled MOU 44.
