The name Spisekartet holds at least two meanings: The menu and “a map for eating”. German equivalent would be Speisekarte, possible lacking some in the ambiguity. Spisekartet published houndreds of restaurant reviews written by amateurs and later on by professional food writers and cooks. Those reviews gave Spisekartet an unrivalled position among restaurant professionals, food researchers and rea
ders. Some reviews were rewritten together with the reviewer, some reviews were all new based on a new visit by a different writer. So in the end, the valuation was corrected or confirmed. Our valuation and attitude proved consistent over time, and more often than not confirmed by leading chefs who knew Oslo restaurant scene. The name Spisekartet was a gift from Petter Enok Skau Jakobsen, who coined the term during our planning of a restaurant guide book back in 1997. The restaurant guide Spisekartet is today in its fourth version of a series of publishing tools all designed and created by Adrian Friis.
