Spending a morning with a professional photographer in his home was one of the highlights of Chris and Angela’s journey.

Their two-week route was designed around physical effort, quiet coastal stays, and genuine local encounters. Every step of their journey balanced raw outdoor exploration with intentional rest, from the mountain peaks of Romsdalseggen in Åndalsnes and Mount Molden in Hafslo, to the fjord landscapes of Fjærland, the fishing village of Kalvåg, and the historic streets of Bergen.

We are grateful when guests allow us to craft journeys that go beyond the surface, where the highlight of a trip is more than just the view from a summit.

"What I learnt in one of the world’s richest, happiest countries"

That was the feature headline in The Sydney Morning Herald after travel journalist Helen Anderson joined us on a journey through Norway.

What she captured so thoughtfully is at the heart of how we design travel: that this country’s greatest value isn't measured in economic terms, but in egalitarianism, kos, seasonal living, and the quiet perspectives gained through genuine cross-cultural encounters.

Rising out of the rocky shoreline at the edge of the Norwegian Sea, the architectural curve for The Whale is built to resemble a giant whale’s back lifting from the ocean.

Travel + Leisure has highlighted the upcoming visitor centre on Andøya, planned to open in 2027. It will be the perfect base to observe and learn about these majestic and mystical mammals. Andenes offers one of the few places in Northern Europe where whales swim close to the coast year-round.

It’s easy to fall in love with Andøya and the Vesterålen area, with its Arctic light, warm people and one of Norway’s most beautiful scenic roads. We are already planning trips in the area, and can’t wait to include visits to The Whale in our tailored journeys.

There is a distinct difference between seeing a landscape and physically moving through it. For the serious cyclist, the roads carved into Norway's western fjords are some of the most spectacular asphalt in the world, terrain most riders only ever encounter on a screen

Next May, we're hosting a small-group, fully supported seven-day cycling journey designed to test your legs on these very routes. Tracing a path from the coastal Art Nouveau architecture of Ålesund through the heart of the Sunnmøre Alps, this itinerary is built for riders who ride regularly and appreciate the satisfaction of a flawless logistical plan.

Over five demanding stages, the route tackles Europe's iconic alpine ascents, including the legendary switchbacks of the Geiranger-Trollstigen National Scenic Route and the technical hairpins of Ørnevegen. You'll ride custom, precision-built machines from Oslo's boutique brand FARA Cycling, backed by full team-car support on your wheel to handle luggage, mid-ride hydration, and mechanical needs.

However, the experience is defined just as much by what happens off the bike. At the end of each stage, your host manages the evening: outdoor waterfront bathtubs, curated farm-to-table dinners, and bases like Hotel Brosundet and Hotel Sagafjord, where every room faces the fjord.

Late May offers a rare window where the alpine roads are free of summer crowds, the peaks are still crowned in winter snow, and the daylight lasts long into the night.
