As our vacation in Scandinavia comes to an end I’ve been reflecting on why this has been such a spectacular trip. 1- Beautiful destinations 2- Dynamic activities/excursions 3- Well-located and comfortable hotels making it easy to navigate and have restaurants, shops and sights just footsteps from our room and 4- Strategically planned itinerary ensuring all goes smoothly.
This is how I plan for my clients and I think it’s why they keep coming back to me and referring us to their friends. I’m here for your trips of a lifetime in Europe and Alaska.

The Bryggen area of Bergen is an UNESCO site. The wharf area was originally founded/built under King Olav Kyrre in 1070. There is a rich history of trade and business throughout the centuries as well as fires and explosions but the Bryggen Foundation strives to maintain the historical charm of the area.

Oslo, the capital of Norway and the largest city in Norway is actually divided in two; the old city and the new city. Both areas are equally as beautiful and have interesting architecture and public art. We did a tour with a Michelin chef so we heard the history, the foodie perspective, politics and the socioeconomic sides of the city. And, we visited friends who live a bit outside of the center in the beautiful hills on the fjord.

Today we had a wonderful lunch with our friends who live here in Oslo! We met during a Boat & Bike cycling trip last summer and were thrilled they had time to meet today. Mette invited us to her beautiful home on a fjord for lunch and Monika and Eric joined us, then brought us back to the city. The absolute best thing about travel is meeting new friends and keeping in touch!!

Oslo, Norway is a small city with a huge impact on the world. The Nobel Peace prize is awarded here each December. The purpose is is to recognize individuals or organizations that have done the most or the best work for "fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses. The recipients always stay at the Oslo Grand Hotel which is historic and in the center of the city.

Train travel throughout Europe
My clients often say “we don’t need 1st class rail”. This is when I educate them. No, it’s not necessary to have larger seats, sometimes beverage and food service or a quieter car with power and WiFi but;
Do you have baggage?
Are you going to be on the train for more than a few hours?
This is important because most trains are extremely busy and there is a very limited area for luggage and if you do not have a reserved seat you may not have a seat at all.
See the gentleman standing in the photo? He stood there for almost 4 hours.
Due to our delays in Copenhagen we had to change our train plans and didn’t have 1st class. The first half of our journey we were stuck in the baby carriage and bike car, crammed all together and there were many unhappy babies!

Update on luggage: we have air tags on our bags so we knew when our bags arrived early in the afternoon in Copenhagen. After several hours we called the baggage service to find out our bags had not been checked into Copenhagen. We went about our evening, had dinner and then decided to go to the airport and attempt to get into the baggage area which is not permitted. Eric and I pled our case together and separately with every airport employee we could find; customs, security, handicap assistance, parking (yes, we were desperate and finally Eric went up to passenger security (like TSA) and a woman took pity on him and walked him down through bag claim, waited in line until he had our bags. It was past midnight before we got back to our hotel but we had our bags and could leave the next morning to go via rail to Gothenburg, Sweden.
Persistance paid off this time!

Train to Gothenburg, Sweden today. From the little we have seen so far, it’s a beautiful city with a vibrant Haga District which is a historic area with unique shops and restaurants. We’re having Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, lingonberries and pickles. The rhubarb spritz is so refreshing and it’s another beautiful day!
