⛔ SPAN BY SPAN DEMOLITION OF THE TB KRONDORF BRIDGE ⚒️🚜
USING MOVABLE SCAFFOLDING SYSTEM - MSS


✅ The replacement of the 50-year-old bridge was absolutely necessary due to the overall poor condition of the structure and the load-bearing reserves that are no longer sufficient for today's traffic conditions.

✅Bridge info:
Year of construction of existing building - 1971
Length - 475 meters
Bridge spans - 45 + 7 x 55 + 45 meters
Height above ground - 40.30 meters

Demolition of the the old bridge and the construction of the new KRONDORF was awarded by Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes to the contractors Eiffage Infra-Süd GmbH & Eiffage Infra-Bau SE & Eiffage Infra-nordwest GmbH.

✅ Movable Scaffolding System ensures the minimal intervention to existing infrastructure.

Using MSS for demolition allows the existing highway remain open throughout most of the demolishing period. The northbound deck is being demolished as the traffic is running on the southbound deck.

✅ After finished demolition MSS was lowered with 4 strand jacks, later the the MSS was disassembled on the ground.
✅ The total weight of each of the 55m long spans is 1400 tons ❗
✅The engineering challenge - to avoid an overload of the superstructure during the demolition and to ensure a safe load transfer within the load capacity of the MSS.

For the first time ever, we took part in the Austrian Construction Congress 2026 in Vienna - and it was once again confirmed: Direct exchange and reliable partnerships remain the foundation of our industry.
Together with our partner STRUKTURAS, we demonstrated how versatile and useful our solutions are for engineering and infrastructure construction.

The aim of this partnership is to offer customers a comprehensive portfolio for complex bridge construction projects from a single source. Hünnebeck plans and supplies formwork systems for piers, abutments, trough structures and parapets, heavy-duty shoring systems as well as safety and height access technology for the construction site. For this, Hünnebeck draws on its large international network of application engineers, who have been bundled in the Infrastructure Competence Centre since 2020. Logistics, cleaning and repair services round off the offer.

Underslung MSS
Movable Scaffolding System

✅ The Underslung MSS solution is currently used in the construction of the decks on road and railway bridges and viaducts, with spans normally varying between 20 m and 70 m.
✅ Concreting each box section span using Underslung MSS can be done in one or more stages, depending on the deck design.
✅ The versatility of the Underslung MSS solution makes it possible to be used on decks with a variable plan view radius and up to minimum of 250 m to 300 m.
✅ The search for simple yet effective solutions has guided the work done by Strukturas over its many years in existence.
✅ The underslung MSS is equipped with three pairs of launching wagons with hydraulic jacks and teflon plates, designed to carry out the opening and closing of the two MSS halves and for its longitudinal movement.
✅ Apart from the current solution using Teflon plates in the launching wagons, Strukturas also has solutions using express rollers or wheels to reduce friction during MSS launching whenever this is necessary to ensure the stability of the columns.
✅ Movable Scaffolding System ensures the minimal intervention to existing infrastructure.

Using MSS for demolition allows the existing highway and the road bellow to remain open throughout most of the demolishing period.
✅ After finished demolition this same MSS will also be used for the construction of the bridge’s new TT section decks.
This approach saves time and resources, making the construction process more efficient.
✅ The challenging conditions on the job site was not easy for Strukturas MSS assembly team to operate.
✅The engineering challenge - to avoid an overload of the superstructure during the demolition and to ensure a safe load transfer within the load capacity of the MSS.
