Nice and informative article about Strukturas Overhead Movable System at Stalowa Wola where STRABAG is building an extra-dosed bridge over river San.

Construction of the bridge is part of construction of DW855 on the Zaklików - Stalowa Wola section executed by STRABAG Sp. z o. o. team:

Tomasz Mołdysz, Kamil Kaczmarek, Michael Bracha and Piotr Borkowicz

The extra-dosed bridge will be 1.76 km long and will be the longest bridge in the Podkarpacie region in the provincial road network. It will consist of four sections - independent piers.

SO 203 Motorway bridge over Malši
🏗

800 m bridge was designed as a flyover with 19 spans. It contains 2 parallel decks with the width of 14,4m. The height of the bridge above the ground is 10 m at its highest point.

🔴 Strukturas Overhead MSS named SO 203 was used for construction of long deck of the bridge project D3 in the Czech Republic, close to Ceske Budejovice.

The Movable Scaffolding System was designed as an overhead type with two main I beams. Opening of the formwork and launching the MSS is was ensured by hydraulic cylinders.

The entire steel structure weighing 525 tons was manufactured in China, in a certified factory, and was transported to the construction site in 12 meter containers.

The complete production of the MSS took three months, and its subsequent transport across half the globe took about five weeks.

Assembly took place completely directly on the construction site using 30,000 high-strength bolts.

Typical span by span concreting cycle of 42 m length bridge spans takes 14 days.

Contractors Eiffage , , Max Wild GmbH and Arlt Bauunternehmen GmbH are using this demolition method for their client Die Autobahn

The demolition of the old bridge with MSS is an effective and safe solution:

- Minimal intervention to existing infrastructure.
- Using MSS for demolition allows the existing highway to remain open throughout all of the demolishing period.
- MSS allows the existing railway to remain open throughout most of the demolishing period.
- The MSS could be assembled on the ground and later could be lifted with 4 strand jacks.
- After finished demolition MSS could be lowered with 4 strand jacks on the ground for safe and productive MSS dismantling.
- The challenging MSS installation conditions can be carried out by professional site crew from Strukturas.
- The engineering challenge is to avoid an overload of the superstructure during the demolition and to ensure a safe load transfer within the load capacity of the MSS.
- After the demolition this same MSS could also be used for the construction of the bridge deck. This approach saves time and resources, making the construction process more efficient.

✅ This solution most commonly used for casting bridge and viaduct decks built with the cantilever method whose span varies from around 60 to 300 meters in length.

✅ A standard Overhead Form Traveller is normally designed to be used in casting segments up to 5 meters in length and up to around 300 tons in weight.

✅ Launchback system allows the Form Traveller (FT) to be disassembled close to the hammerhead, after being used in casting the deck’s last segment.

☝ This procedure streamlines operation and minimises cost!

❗ For longer or heavier segments, “tailor-made” Form Travellers can always be designed to work in these special conditions.

Special services for one of our first customers!


Our client Mota-Engil , currently the largest Portuguese construction company present in various markets worldwide, has awarded Strukturas the redesign project of an Overhead MSS originally not provided by Strukturas and which had been stored for several years in clients yard in Poland.

Strukturas’ redesign introduced significant modifications to the MSS, including a hinge joint between the main girder and the front nose, allowing it to be used on plan view curved decks, the addition of a rear concreting support, which allows for the transportation of pre-assembled U-shaped reinforcement using electrical winches, and the supply of a hydraulically operated internal formwork.

Mota-Engil transported the MSS from Poland to Portugal, where it is currently being used in the construction of railway viaducts. The rebuilt MSS steel structure was done in Portugal. Mota-Engil gave a special attention to pre-assembly and testing both at the workshop and at their central yard, due to the MSS being stored in Poland for several years.

Strukturas has been supplying various bridge building equipment, including Formtravellers FT and Movable Scaffolding Systems MSS, to Mota-Engil for around 30 years. Our the first supply was made in Portugal 1994 of an Underslung MSS to the company, that was then called Engil and later included in the Mota group, giving rise to the current Mota-Engil.

We are thrilled to announce that Strukturas started mobilisation of the Special Balanced Cantilever Formwork tailored to the unique engineering challenge of Implenia.

What is special about Strukturas solution?
✅ Tailored for Concreting the massive and geometrically narrow complex hammerhead to extend additional long and heavy segments using the balanced cantilever method.
✅ Prepared for the installation by incremental launching of a steel deck that will seamlessly overlay the partially concreted hammerhead.
✅ Allows continued concreting the hammerhead under the steel deck, integrating it with the deck while maintaining full support and precision.
✅This innovative solution minimise crane and labour needs through hydraulic adjustments, while keeping the Special Form Traveller in place to ensure precise geometry and alignment.

☝ At Raunheim, Mönchhof-Dreieck, 3 level crossing the old viaduct over the A3 and A67 was demolished by Max Wild GmbH .

✅In order to carry out the demolition work efficiently and safely while the motorways were in use, the 3,200-tonne bridge superstructure was first raised by 5.20 metres.

✅130-metre-long Strukturas Underslung MSS was assembled behind the abutment and launched forward below lifted bridge deck.

✅It was minimal intervention to the traffic on the highway below the deck.
✅The challenging MSS installation conditions was carried out by professional site crew from Strukturas.
