Made for Movement Global & UK

Made for Movement Global & UK Made for Movement is providing movement and participation through dynamic standing and walking aids for people with severe disabilities. E. g.

Since 1995 Made for Movement has been creating opportunities for people with severe disabilities to participate in everyday activities. It started out with the NF-Walker, and in 2007, one of the founders competed in a Norwegian TV program for entrepreneurs called “The Creator”. He entered with his latest innovation, which was enough to win the whole competition. With that, the Innowalk was born. O

ver time, both the NF-Walker and Innowalk have evolved, being made available in several variations to better serve different needs. in 2011, the Innowalk Pro, developed for clinical practices with simple, adjustable size features, was launched. In 2016 the next-generation NF-Walker 2 was launched, taking dynamic standing and walking further than ever before. The ability to move is something most of us take for granted. Our experience has shown us the life-changing impact that movement has for people whose mobility has been affected by disability.

Let's talk about Physical Activity! 🏃 The World Health Organisation have recommendations on the amount of physical activity that we should aim to achieve on a weekly basis. They have separate recommendations for children and adolescents, and adults.

Are these recommendations achievable for people with physical disabilities?

We'd love to know how you like to stay active - let us know in the comments 👇

Meet Jen 👋 Jen Wilkinson is our Clinical Training Manager in the UK team. Jen has been with us since our UK journey began in 2018, bringing her extensive experience from working with our products at our previous distributor. With a background in paediatric physiotherapy, Jen is passionate about making a difference in the industry.

Outside of work, Jen enjoys the great outdoors, regularly plays netball, and has a love/hate relationship with running. She lives in Newcastle upon Tyne with her husband and 1 year old daughter. A true foodie, Jen enjoys dining out at restaurants whenever she can, though cooking isn't her favourite pastime.

We asked Jen some questions so you can get to know her more:

❓What do you enjoy most about your role at MFM?
I absolutely love seeing people’s reaction to standing and moving in our equipment, especially for the first time. Each day is different, and I feel very lucky to be able visit lots of places and meet all sorts of different people, as well as working alongside an amazing team both in the UK and overseas. 🫶

❓What do you spend far too much time doing?
Voice notes! They are more like podcasts sometimes, I recommend listening on double speed! 🎙️

❓How do you switch off?
I’m a fan of musical theatre whenever I can get to see anything, and I love a pub quiz! 🎭

❓ What are you better than 90% of people at?
Knowing all of the choreography to songs by Steps🕺

❓What are you worse than 90% of people at?
Staying awake for a full episode of anything on TV 😴

❓If you could attempt a Guinness World Record, what would it be?
I’ve attempted (and didn’t quite succeed in) a tap dancing one before, so next time I’d try something like reciting the most amount of UK garage song lyrics 🎤

❓What is one thing you have never done but would love to do?
Visit every continent – I’ve only ticked off 3 so far! 🌎

💚 Physical Activity and CP

People with CP are more at risk of secondary physical complications and might experience negative health outcomes early in life due to factors such as spasticity, reduced muscle strength, pain, deformities

This means that staying physically active through life, from childhood into adulthood, is extremely important to prevent both secondary outcomes related to the CP diagnosis, but also to improve overall health.

Meet Stephen 👋 Stephen Kirkpatrick is our Head of UK and IRL. Since initiating the project to bring Innowalk & Innowalk Pro to the UK in 2014, Stephen has been a driving force behind the growth and success of our business and products.

Stephen has a passion for nature - particularly forest lakes or ocean views, although you won't typically find him camping. He has been learning Norwegian since 2018, embracing the language and culture of the company's roots.

We asked Stephen some more questions to get to know him a bit better:

❓What do you enjoy most about your role at MFM?
I like working in a modern organisation that values and supports people with a culture of 'side before self'. There is always someone there to help raise you up and help you out when you need it. I love working with our UK team and am delighted to have welcomed three new fantastic team members in the last few months 🤗

❓What do you spend far too much time doing?
Organising the dishwasher properly to maximise space & efficiency, it's a small obsession 🧼

❓How do you switch off?
Working around and building my smallholding in the rural countryside, so far, I have some goats & hens, but we will be welcoming some bee hives in spring. 🐐

❓ What are you better than 90% of people at?
I have a fairly good memory in general, and specifically I work to remember people's names, even after a long time of not meeting.🧠

❓What are you worse than 90% of people at?
Arts & Crafts or watching/participating in team sports.... I get bored very quickly. 🎨

❓If you could attempt a Guinness World Record, what would it be?
To eat as many spicy chicken wings (Vegan) or Vietnamese summer rolls as possible in the shortest amount of time. 🍽

❓What is one thing you have never done but would love to do?
Speak another language fluently and have a conversation with a native speaker, the cherry on the cake would be to make someone laugh in their language. 💬
