Merry Christmas!

Yesterday, the 21st of December, marked the winter solstice - the darkest day of the year. We had a dark, but still fantastic day :)
Under the polar night, all these encounters are so special.
We always focus on going to areas with fewer boats, so we can have better encounters with more relaxed whales.
There are several newborn orca calves in the area now, and we were lucky to observe a few interacting with their (likely) mothers.
Once, we saw a female resting right next to the boat, with a small head popping up from time to time...Most likely, the baby was nursing while the female was stationary. Orcas can nurse while swimming, but females (especially experienced mothers) can also help the youngster by remaining stationary until the baby gains experience.
We had lots of spy-hopping going on around us from more curious pods.
We continue to see feedings almost every day, which is an excellent sign.
Still a lot of orcas in the area.
There are some playful juvenile humpback whales around, also.
We have seen the exact individual many times now, constantly lobbing its tail or slapping it. Sometimes playing with another humpback whale, sometimes interacting with orcas...
And of course let's not forget about the fin whales, they are also around, and we keep seeing them, especially when the orcas are feeding :)
With all these photos from December, we wish all of our guests and business partners Merry Christmas
