Today on the Stø Safari, our guide from the Southern Hemisphere, well acquainted with fin whales there, spotted a huge fin whale heading south at high speed. Earlier we’d seen a couple of minke whales, but this one was different. Bigger. The second-largest animal in the world, and a baleen whale.

There was no obvious spout or blow, but this very fast whale was “running,” swimming just below the surface with slow breaths and traveling easily, leaving round fluke prints, like footprints, on the sea behind. We managed to follow it for a while, then let it continue its solitary ride in Arctic waters.

After this amazing encounter, we came upon an orca family with a calf. They were on the move too, eating fish, disappearing and reappearing as they traveled. It was a busy day on the whale highway—memories for a lifetime! 🐳🤍🖤

Beautiful Pilot Whales, "the pirates of the sea", near Anda, the bird Island. There were maybe 50 around and they stayed near Anda, Stø, all day, chilling, spyhopping, some travelling and eating fish, taking care of the family and babies. More videos www.instagram.com/arcticwhaletours

Amazing whale day from Stø on 17th june!!! On the way to the Bleik Canyon we met a beautiful Orca family, a calf, 4-6 females and 2 large males hunting fish near the Andøy waters. 🐬 This huge dolphin species is very social and family orientated whale. The baby was always between the mom and the male orca. They never left it more than 3 meters away from them. It so cute to keep up with bigger family members. Orcas tend to stun the fish by hitting them with its fluke and crabs the fish in mouth when they are dazed. And as quickly as they arrived, they all desided together to swim fast away and have some fish on the way 🥰

Wonderful whale watching luck continued in Bleik Canyon where there was 5-6 male s***m whales eating of fishermans long lines. This time humans fish Greenland halibut, and the whales looooove the easy lunch. They are not harmed by this learned behaviour.

On the way back before Anda bird island, we came up with wonderful pod of pilot whales. 7 whales wondering around easily swimming.

The Anda island had at least 7 sea eagles, razorbills, guillemots and lot of cute puffins!
When we thought we could not ask for more, there was a moose on the island near Stø harbor. She must have swimmed there! What a day of wonders😅😍
