Well what a fabulously unexpected 29 hours we've had in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia!

We weren't supposed to be back here at all.  But because we got 'turfed off' our Disney Adventure cruise (see previous posts),  we have re-routed our flights, to Tokyo with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur, known as KL by locals.

The capital has a modern section, with the Twin Towers at KLCC, but for us the beating heart, and charm is the Old Quarter, clustered around Merdeka Square.

There are 5 must see sights within close walking distance of each other. First up: is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, home to the courts, and a really dazzling structure. Completed in 1897, it has gleaming copper domes, and was the administrative centre for the British colonial government. It's beautiful.

Next is Merdeka Square, where the Union Jack was lowered and the Malayan flag raised at midnight on August 31, 1957, marking the end of colonial rule.

Behind is the most famous mosque in the Country, Masjid Jamek. Opened in 1909, it's a stunning building, now circled by sky skyscrapers. It's the very birthplace of Kuala Lumpur.

Behind is China Town and Petaling Street. This area was the heart of the early Chinese settlers, centre for the booming tin mining industry in 19th century. It is a sensory explosion of hustle and bustle, famous for its crowded night markets, and street food stalls.

Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures, including a colonial period, with delightful afternoon tea venues. We found one, called KLCG in beautiful historic buildings.  Fabulous food, and great setting.

Then an evening strolling Central Market, and the night stalls.

So, that's been a wonderful 39 hours of history, culture and food!  Sometimes the best and most enjoyable travels are the unexpected, spontaneous ones!

Have you been to Kuala Lumpur, or planning to, let us know! Meantime we're hopping on a plane to Tokyo, land of the Rising Sun.  For 2 days before our next Cruise.   Hope to God this one actually leaves port, and doesn't get cancelled!

Do follow along, we'll be posting daily. It's a great itinerary.

Well, we're unexpectedly back in Singapore!

In case you missed the saga the past 48 hours, I'll bring you up to speed: we boarded the newest cruise ship in Asia, the Disney Adventure. Like everyone else, we skipped up the gangplank, whistling 'It's a Small World', looking forward to a 4 night 'Cruise to Nowhere.'

Little did we realise this Cruise to Nowhere literally meant that. Due to what the Captain called Mechanical Errors, the ship never sailed that night.. nor the next morning, or the following afternoon. Eventually 27 hours later, we were advised: Cruise Cancelled.

Everyone had to vacate. Had to get off, and stay off, whilst they fixed it, and go home. As you can imagine this news went down like a lead balloon. Disney attempted to disembark 5000+ passengers into hotels for the night. We were amongst the fortunate ones. We only had to stand around for 5 hours. According the the chatgroup, some didn't get off until 1am, and into a hotel bed until 2am.

The following day, we spotted the Disney Adventure out to sea. I guess they were doing sea trials. It's rumoured the azipods are at fault. Needed for propulsion and manoeuvrebility. They can plague a ship for years.

Incoming passengers are due tomorrow. There is no official word from Disney if this next sailing will go ahead either.

In our 29 hours aboard we filmed lots, tried lots, including the Iron Cycle rollercoaster. Getting on is like gold dust. I was on the app all day, ready to pounce.

There are parts of the Disney Adventure that are beautifully themed, and a credit to the line. However, there is so much we feel is absolutely wrong, and will disappoint. Needless errors, and questionable decisions. I'll put out a full explanation video of what happened on that ill-fated cruise, and why we think Disney has a huge amount that needs changing.

Please be patient for that video, as for the next 2 weeks we're travelling. Tomorrow we head to Kuala Lumpur, for a whirlwind 30 hours, then to Tokyo, for a fascinating cruise around Japan & Korea. Do follow along with us, it's going to be a lot of fun!

Here's our past 24 hours in Singapore

Well, before we could blink, our cruise on Disney Adventure is over, before it all really began. 28 hours onboard, and we are being disembarked, debarked, turfed off? Apparently the azipod propulsion system problems aren't going anywhere, can't be fixed for our cruise, and time has been called.

We've been advised to gather our belongings and leave.

As we understand it, we will be offered:

100% refund
50% Future Cruise Credit
$500 for travel plan alterations
Hotel for tonight

I feel so sorry for those who have travelled half way around the world for this. Some are in tears. That is the most difficult part.... the look on people’s faces. Watching families who saved for years, to realise their "once-in-a-lifetime" moment is disappearing, before it even started. Devastating.

Despite the early exit, I’ve managed to film nearly every inch of the ship. I’ll be putting that footage together to give you my full, unfiltered opinion.

Because if there is one thing I’ve realised in these 28 hours, it’s that this ship and this specific experience are definitely not for everyone.

This cruise is designed for a specific type of traveller—and it definitely won't be for everyone.

More on this soon.

Our Full video review of exactly what happened will be out soon on our YouTube Channel:

Coming up for us: next week we'll be in Tokyo, Japan, for a cruise with Celebrity.

Stay with us for that!

Day Two, of our 'Cruise to Nowhere'... literally.

We're still docked in Singapore, on the Disney Adventure. Day Two out of Four, and the Captain has confirmed azipod propulsion problems. This is not good news as they are a devil to be fixed. If we go anywhere at all, I'll be shocked.

I'll keep you posted!

Welcome to the Ritzy Travel Guide coverage aboard the Disney Adventure, from Singapore, and Day One of our cruise.

I'd love to be able to tell you we are sailing into the sunset, waving goodbye to Singapore. Sadly that's not the case. Just after scheduled Sailaway time, the Captain came over the intercom to announce problems. He described them as propulsion issues. Possibly the azipods.

Anyhow, the short of it is: we're not going anywhere. Definitely not tonight, possibly not tomorrow.

Bearing in mind it's a 4 day cruise, that doesn't leave much.

Ironically it's described as a 'Cruise to Nowhere.' That might end up being frustratingly true, if we never even untie from the docks. That really is a cruise to nowhere

I predict there might be a bit of a mutiny if that ends up being the case.

We'll keep you updated!

Things might start to get heated

Well we've had a rather 'character building' day in Singapore....we've tried out a 'Capsule Hotel.'

For years we've seen pictures, and wondered if it was a fun, or crazy idea. So today was the moment of reckoning. We transferred from a relatively 'posh' hotel to this rather diminutive alternative!

At times we had laugh out loud moments, at others bending ourselves like contortionists!

I tell you what, we had a great night sleep but how did we feel in the morning?

We've video'd the whole lot, so you can decide if it's the type of daft accomodation you'd try? Would you? Let us know!

Meantime we rounded the evening off with a couple (possibly more) Singapore Slings by Boat Quay.

Next up: we're about to board our first cruise of this segment: Disney Adventure. Wish us luck!

Day Two in Singapore. It's a fascinating blend of history, culture, and stop dead in your tracks views.

Many countries try to modify or reimagine their past, as history gets 'woke.' No so in Singapore, they embrace the background of everyone who arrived here over the centuries. From Chinese Tea Merchants, the plantation workers, to colonial businessmen. No judgements are made.

Today Singapore is a bustling, successful and vibrant city state. There is much to see here.

Including the famous historical hotels of The Raffles, and the Fullerton.

We stopped at plenty of eateries along the waterfront, and some street food. Great satay, smoked over the coals.

Then time for a sunset over the Merlion Fountain and Marina Bay.

Oooh, and you must see the most fancy Apple Store!

Today we moved from a 'posh' hotel, and checked into a 'Capsule!' I'll give you the verdict on that later!

Tomorrow we board our first cruise of the region. Lots of updates to come!

Today is the great social experiment! We try a Capsule Hotel. We've seen them for years round the world, but never tried it. Never experienced it.
Wish us luck!

The reception and bar areas are stunning... later we see the capsule.

We’re in Singapore, always one of the most vibrant and interesting places to visit. Full of character and buzz. If you've not been, it’s famous for being a sensory explosion where every street corner tells a different story.

Today, we’ve been weaving through the kaleidoscopic lanes of Little India, where the air is thick with the scent of jasmine garlands and roasting spices. Between the technicolour shophouses and the intricate carvings of the temples, there is an undeniable pulse here that just pulls you in.

Just a short hop away, the atmosphere shifts as you enter the historic Kampong Glam district. The majestic golden domes of the Sultan Mosque tower over the neighborhood, framed perfectly by the palm trees of Bussorah Street. It’s the perfect blend of grand heritage and modern cool, with quirky boutiques and street art tucked into every alleyway.

Of course, no morning here is complete without a Teh Tarik. Watching the masters "pull" the tea back and forth

We're setting off on a cruise in 2 days, so we're ticking off the must-sees before we hit the high seas!

Singapore is one of our favourite destinations in Asia, as you have a blend of cultures, and street life that encompasses modern and traditional. Perfect example is the waterfront at Marina Bay Sands, and the Gardens by the Bay.

Will be posting more from Singapore tomorrow!
