A Historic Day in Galway Bay! 🚢
Yesterday, the Port of Galway proudly welcomed the Nieuw Statendam of Holland America Line — the largest cruise ship ever to call at the port at 99,902 GT.
This milestone marks 67 years to the day since Holland America Line first visited Galway, when the MV Ryndam arrived from New York in 1958.
Fittingly, a Statendam-class vessel also visited in 1967 — and now in 2025, we celebrate this enduring partnership with the arrival of the ultra-modern Nieuw Statendam.
A special moment was shared between Captain Werner Timmers and Harbour Master Capt. Brian Sheridan, who together held the original registry book featuring the 1958 Ryndam call — bridging past and present in true maritime style ⚓
