Port of Dover becomes the UK’s first net-zero port 🌱

A major milestone for maritime sustainability: the Port of Dover has achieved net-zero emissions (Scope 1 & 2), five years ahead of schedule and well ahead of national targets.

With a 98% reduction in emissions since 2007, this achievement highlights what can be done through innovation, investment, and long-term commitment, from renewable energy and cleaner fuels to efficiency improvements and local offset initiatives.

An important step forward for decarbonisation in the maritime sector, and a strong example for ports across Europe and beyond 👏

Bilbao invests in the future of low-emission fuels 🌱 🚢

BilbaoPort is moving forward with a major e-fuels plant, set to be operational by early 2027. Developed by Petronor (Repsol Group), the facility will produce synthetic fuels using captured CO₂ and renewable hydrogen, positioning Bilbao as a pioneer in next-generation energy solutions.

With a €146 million investment and capacity to produce 2,000 tonnes of fuel annually, the project is part of a broader vision to drive decarbonisation, innovation, and sustainable port-city development.

Copenhagen accelerates shore power and looks ahead to carbon capture 🌱 ⚡

Copenhagen continues to lead on sustainable cruise operations, with shore power already in use since 2025 and expected to cover 79% of cruise guests by 2026. Full capacity will be reached by 2028, supported by strong collaboration between the port, city, and cruise line partners.

At the same time, Copenhagen Malmö Port is advancing carbon capture (CCUS) through a new EU-backed cross-border initiative, aiming to integrate CO₂ handling and green fuel production across the Øresund region.

A strong example of how ports are combining immediate solutions with long-term innovation to support the transition to greener cruising.
