On 17 February, we officially kicked off the season in by welcoming our very first cruise call of the year — and we had the honour of receiving Mein Schiff 3. ❄️🚢

It was a magical winter’s day, with snow gently falling and the village beautifully covered in white, creating a truly unforgettable backdrop for the start of the season.

A huge thank you to our fantastic team in Nordfjordeid for their dedication and professionalism, and to the ship’s Shorex team for the great cooperation. Together, we ensured a smooth and exceptional operation.

Meet Gjørva.☺️
Part of our team, he works as Ship Agent at GNCH and proudly represents GNCH at a local level.
What he enjoys most about his role is working closely with the team and meeting experienced, professional crew members on board visiting ships.🛳️
Outside of work, Geir loves spending time — in the mountains and in lakes or in the fjord.
One thing that might surprise you is that he often travels to the to enjoy downhill with his daughter and partner.
An in the morning is his go-to, and the perfect way to start the day.

Geiranger Light Art Festival 2026 ✨

From 13 to 22 February 2026, comes alive with ten days of light art, concerts and winter activities during the annual Geiranger Light Art Festival.

Each evening from 18:00 to 22:00, visitors can enjoy a magical two-kilometre illuminated trail from the fjord through the village — perfect for a relaxed evening walk.

The festival is free and open to everyone, inviting locals and visitors to experience Geiranger in a unique winter atmosphere.

Ålesund shines as one of Norway’s top cruise destinations😊

In 2025, Ålesund ranked as the second most visited cruise port in Norway, welcoming 281 cruise calls and almost 594,000 passengers, according to figures published by AESby. A clear sign of the continued growth of cruise tourism along the Norwegian coast.

🎄 Meet the Norwegian Santa – Fjøsnissen 🎅

In Norway, Christmas is looked after by , a small, bearded character from traditional folklore. Rather than living at the North Pole, he’s said to stay in the barn, watching over animals and helping on the farm.

Kind but a little mischievous, Fjøsnissen is traditionally rewarded with a bowl of rice porridge on Christmas Eve – a simple gesture to keep him happy and the farm running smoothly. A charming reminder of Norway’s festive traditions and love of folklore.
