We are a small adventure company with 15 years of experience in organising outdoor activities on Kvaløya and in the Tromsø area. Throughout the years we have developed and improved the trips, increasingly focusing on high quality and personal service for our guests. cruises, fishing trips and coastal culture trips. During the trips our guests will learn about the area, its history and wildlife. We provide quality clothing and all kind of equipment needed. On all tours, we put effort into bringing our guests to good locations for photography. In case they are not experienced photographers, we are happy to help with the settings. Pictures taken by us during your tour are always included. Since we started, we have focused on bringing something back to our small community. We involve local people and small local businesses in what we do. Being in nature is our passion. Photographing wildlife and spectacular natural phenomena is our driving force. Without our beautiful nature, we would not do what we do, and we like to share the importance of taking care of the surroundings during our trips. Over the past decades, large areas along the Norwegian coast have been transformed into so-called “sea urchin barrens,” where the seabed is dominated by the green sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis). This development has led to a significant decline in biodiversity and productivity.

We have therefore started a project in which our guests take part in sea urchin removal using traps. We have built the traps ourselves, and initial results have been promising, with catches of approximately 50–150 sea urchins per trap.

The aim of the project is to help restore ecological balance in Kattfjorden by reducing the sea urchin population so that kelp forests can re-establish themselves. This is expected to contribute to the restoration of a functioning coastal ecosystem, increased biodiversity, and stronger fish stocks, particularly coastal cod, by recreating important nursery habitats.

Similar projects in Norway have shown very clear and positive results, including significantly higher numbers of juvenile cod and coalfish, greater abundance of adult fish, and a more diverse and stable food web. Studies indicate that areas dominated by sea urchins support very little fish life, whereas the recovery of kelp forests quickly leads to the return of fish populations.

An important part of the project is engaging our guests in this work, enabling them to contribute to the rebuilding of local fish stocks while also helping to share knowledge and awareness of marine environmental issues.
