🇳🇴 Tromsø is one of the best places to hunt the Northern Lights, but what many people don’t realise is how much microclimates affect every single tour.
⠀
Because the region is full of mountains, fjords, islands and open valleys, the weather can change completely within just a few kilometres. One area can be cloudy, while another 10 or 20 minutes away is perfectly clear.
⠀
🌌 That’s why experienced guides (most of the time) don’t stay in one spot. They follow the weather, read the local patterns, and move between coastal and inland areas to find those clear pockets of sky.
🌌 On some nights, driving away from the coastline or crossing into a different valley can make all the difference.
⠀
ℹ️ Good aurora hunting is not only about the KP index (especially in Tromsø!). It’s about understanding the landscape, the local weather behaviour, and knowing where the sky can open up.
