Here some shots of an early display on 24th of February - what a phenomenal night!! And one of my top 10 locations.

Season 2025/2026 was phenomenal, with plenty of clear skies.

As many people ask: is it true that when it is cold, the auroras are strong? Absolutely yes and no. Cold nights here indicate high pressure and no clouds—definitely the best setup to watch auroras. So cold is not directly related to Aurora Activity, but it just creates the right setup with clear skies, where Auroras are displayed on the levels between 100–500 km above the ground. As clouds are usually located at the level of 3,000 meters, cloudy nights mean very little chances to see the lights that are a few hundred kilometers above. Cold temperatures (more in the -15 Celsius region) indicate high pressure and clear skies!! The best setup for seeing Auroras!

So Arctic, in a way, is a very balanced place—you can see great aurora under starry nights, but do not expect it will be warm!!! :D :D

Since 20th of October, when the first snow came, it has been pretty much constantly below -10 Celsius on our tours!! with more than half of the tour being in the range of -11/-15 Celsius (!!!)

IT WAS A BLOODY COLD WINTER!!!

Cold toes as the price to see magnificent lights—at the end, maybe not that of a high sacrifice.

I always say to my customers, you should be happy you are here for only one night!! My toes have been frozen every single night since October :D :D :D

If you come to Tromso and look for Aurora Hunt experience I am here to host you!! I am a professional guide and photographer with many seasons of experience.

Some shots from our 26th of February Aurora Photo Tour.

SEASON 2025/2026, in my opinion, was the best of the last three, strongly marking the peak activity of the Solar Maximum!
The auroras were absolutely insane from September all the way until now, and most likely we will still see some good fireworks of nature in the upcoming month. However, there was a HUGE sign from the Sun that we might be done for this time — a few days back there were no sunspots visible on the Sun. It is usually these sunspots that emit massive amounts of plasma solar wind, which eventually interacts with our magnetosphere, creating magnificent displays.

DO NOT FEAR!! 😄😄😄 It was just a sign — like a warm day during the winter reminding you that something else is coming one day — but the winter still holds strong. The same goes for the low activity of the Sun. In my opinion, we will still have at least 1–2 good seasons in the next years, and then the activity will slowly ease, reaching the Solar Minimum most likely in the years 2030–2031, only to rise again in 2037–2040 (!!!) INSANE TO EVEN THINK ABOUT!!

So if you wonder whether you should come to Tromsø now or in 5 years, the answer is NOW!! Or the 2026/2027 season!!

Week 47th in Arctic - it was deifnitely COLD

Not as cold as it can get here but still temperatures on our tours were between -12/-15 every day for almost a week.

A great training of mental focus to stay calm and breath. Luckily we also made fires and wear big overall suits and extra boots - but it is still -15 and it is cold :D

In this crisp air, the snow crystals created a beautiful atmosphere, almost magical, for the photos.

Sanna Mountain 2/3
20th of October
The actual photos of the mountain itself.
Pictures taken on one of my Aurora Photography Tours based in Tromsø, Norway. Actuall Saana Mountain and the Comet Lemon - on the closest of her orbit next to the Earth.
"Tromsø is the best place to see Aurora in Finland" - as the local jokes goes around - we start our tours in Tromsø but often we need to drive up to 200km deep in Finland to find clear skies.
This was the night like this - we drove to Kilpisjarvi - a village by the lake of the same name. Situatued by the sacred mountain in Sami mythology - called Saana Mountain.
Here is a little story:
"In Sámi mythology, Saana mountain is a sacred site and the subject of a legend about two giants, Saana and Malla, who were turned to stone. According to the myth, they were giants in love who were to be married, but a rival giant, Paltsa, and three witches unleashed a freezing wind that froze Saana forever. Malla, in her grief, cried tears that formed Lake Kilpisjärvi, and she herself was turned to stone as Malla Fell. Saana was also historically used as a place for ritual offerings to deities like Ukko, the sky god."

Arctic is so much more then just Auroras dancing in the night skies.

Don't get me wrong - Celestial dance called Northern Lights is one in a lifetime experience, however the day in Arcitc can also bring you closer to inner peace, joy and beauty.

Spectacular views on the way to Tromvik. Passing by villages like Ersfjordbotn and Grøtfjord is a memorable experience for a lifetime.

I do both - night tours, that is my specialty - and occasionally a photography day tours too!

24th of October - Kilpisjarvi lakeside

AURORA MOOD!!

Happy happy people!

Our Aurora Hunt started in Tromsø - we set the course in my 4x4 VW Trasnporter on Finland - whil drivin we spotted few Auroras, but clouds were apporaching so we pushed and drove all the way to Finland. By the side of a Saana mountain and frontside of a lake, equiped in thermal suits and warm boots we were jsut waiting - chatting, making friends, sipping on a hot choco and hot soup. Taling, laughing, being silent in this majestic Arctic landscape.

After a while there she was - Mystical lights of the North - Aurora Borealis in all her beauty - the main display happend after midnight and more photos will be shared in next post - so stay tuned.
