Tromsø International Film Festival is a popular film festival for our audience, and at the same time an important meeting point for Norwegian and international film industry. The festival has had an incredible growth since it first commenced in 1991. The total of admissions in 1991 was 5200 - in 2020 it was nearly 60,000. This makes TIFF Norway's biggest film festival. function
TIFF shall be an arena for joint cinematic experiences focusing on artistic quality, curated on the background of the festival’s values, in particular humanism and freedom of speech. TIFF shall be a gathering place and screening venue for the northern based film industry. TIFF shall preserve and promote film and other cultural heritage through the yearlong operation of Verdensteatret. TIFF shall be an educational arena for children and youngsters on the art of film, moving images and media science. Outdoor Cinema
Tromsø International Film Festival is set in the dark polar nights, which give's TIFF the unique possibility to screen films outdoor. The outdoor cinema is located at the main square in the heart of Tromsø. The program includes a selection of shorts and documentaries from the Films from the North program, along with special screenings and various other events. TIFF 2020 facts:
68554 admissions in total (all screenings and events - unofficial numbers)
58320 admissions in total to official TIFF screenings
6331 admissions to additional screenings and industry events
3903 admission to parties and social events
10856 individual participants
1538 accreditated participants - including 80 media representatives and 316 volunteers
The festival generates an amount of 26 million NOK into trade and business*

TIFF in Cannes ☀️🎬

This week, parts of the TIFF team have been in Cannes watching films, meeting people and gathering inspiration for Tromsø International Film Festival 2027.

Festival director Lisa Hoen, assistant programme director Henning Rosenlund and Kjetil Almås also joined the Finnish and Northern Norwegian Brunch, where TIFF co-hosted together with partners from Norway and Finland.

Among the guests were filmmaker Johannes Vang and cinematographer Adam Enochsson, the team behind BORDERLINE (PÅ GRENSA), which won Tromsøpalmen for Best Short Film at TIFF earlier this year 🩷

And yes, the sun was shining.

So was former TIFF festival director Martha Otte behind the DJ booth ☀️🎶

TIFF i Cannes ☀️🎬

Denne uka har deler av TIFF-teamet vært i Cannes for å se film, møte folk og hente inspirasjon til Tromsø internasjonale filmfestival 2027.

Festivalsjef Lisa Hoen, assisterende programsjef Henning Rosenlund og Kjetil Almås deltok også på Finnish and Northern Norwegian Brunch, hvor TIFF var med som medarrangør sammen med samarbeidspartnere fra Norge og Finland.

Blant gjestene var filmskaper Johannes Vang og fotograf Adam Enochsson, teamet bak PÅ GRENSA, som vant Tromsøpalmen for beste kortfilm under TIFF tidligere i år 🩷

Og ja, sola skinte.

Fire dager på Aurora kino Fokus 🎬 Ni filmkonserter 🎶

Tromsø Silent Film Days 2026 brakte stumfilmen tilbake inn i rommet — med levende musikk som formet hver visning.

Fra storslåtte METROPOLIS som åpnet festivalen, til dristige og eksperimentelle konserter med internasjonale kunstnere, beveget programmet seg mellom det klassiske og det uventede.

💥🦖Dinosaurs, volcanic eruptions, intrigue, and romance in an action-packed adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle - with live music by force of nature Ugress!

The 1925 film adaptation largely follows the novel, but Conan Doyle’s adventurous tale has also inspired numerous other films, from King Kong and Jurassic Park.
