KATHMANDU, Nepal โ€” Search and rescue efforts are underway after an avalanche struck Himlung Himal, a 7,126-metre peak located in the Nar Phu area of Manang district, leaving 10 people unaccounted for.

The incident was confirmed on Sunday by Rishi Bhandari, general secretary of the Expedition Operators Association Nepal. According to Bhandari, the 10 missing individuals include both climbers and support staff. Two of the unaccounted-for individuals were with Imagine Nepal Pvt Ltd, while the remaining eight were with Himalayan Holidays Nepal.

Ram Krishna Lamichhane, director general of the Department of Tourism, stated that the department is closely monitoring the situation. Authorities are currently gathering further details and coordinating efforts to locate and rescue those missing.

The avalanche comes amid persistent rain and snowfall across the region's mountain districts, which has complicated monitoring and initial response efforts.

Further updates will be released as more information becomes available from the Department of Tourism and expedition organizers on the ground.
