Remembering Kili Pemba Sherpa: A Legend Whose Legacy Will Forever Stand Above the Clouds💔🙏
The mountains have lost one of their finest sons.
Kili Pemba Sherpa, affectionately known as “Kilu,” was a legendary high-altitude mountaineer from Nepal’s Rolwaling Valley, Dolakha. He tragically lost his life in an avalanche on Broad Peak, Pakistan, on July 30, 2026.
A member of the exclusive 14 Eight-Thousanders Club, Kili completed all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, summited Mount Everest 15 times, and was among the historic first Nepali team to conquer K2 in winter in 2021. He also helped establish the true commercial route to the summit of Manaslu and inspired the world by guiding double-amputee climbers to historic Himalayan summits.
Beyond his extraordinary achievements, Kili was admired for his humility, courage, and unwavering dedication to his fellow climbers. His legacy is not only measured by the summits he reached, but by the countless lives he inspired and the doors he opened for future generations of mountaineers.
