Chileme - Beyul Dagam Namgo
Following the footprints of Guru Rinpoche

While exploring the Beyul Dagam Namgo (the heavenly gate to the half-moon shape) in the Langtang valley, we visited Chilime, where there is a stone with footprints of Guru Rinpoche and his consort Mandarava. The vertical stone has a groove in the center which is believed as a mark where the walking stick of Guru was kept and prayed. The Samten Ling monastery in Old village is believed to date back to the 8th century. Many relics and monasteries have been destroyed by earthquake and also rampant bulldozing for hydroelectric projects. The Samten Ling Monastery is also undergoing reconstruction. The Kheto Pema Ling Gompa was also under reconstruction after the earthquake. This was where the Five Tseringma sisters performed a dance and tamed demonic beings. The dakini footprints were also lost in debris.

Following the footsteps of Guru Padmashambhava !

Nepal is a must visit place following the footsteps of Guru Padmashambhava. He meditated, got enlightenment and made pilgrimage to several places in Nepal, leaving them with his blessings for devotees to visit in future.
A pilgrimage tour of Nepal following the footsteps of Guru Rinpoche takes about a week. https://www.itournepal.com/tour/guru-rinpoche-pilgrimage-nepal.php
In the life of Padmasambhava, known as Guru Rinpoche, India was the location of his training, Nepal served as his place of retreat, and Tibet became his primary area of activity.
It is believed that in a previous life, he was born to a poultry woman named Jadzima, who constructed the Boudhanath Stupa with her two other sons. He made a significant aspiration to be reborn as Guru Padmashambhava in front of this stupa, which is thought to fulfill all desires.
His first arrival in Nepal was to engage in practice at Lhundruk Tsek, which includes the modern pilgrimage sites of Boudhanath and Pashupatinath.

Years later, he returned with Mandarava, the princess of Zahor, and together they attained immortality in the caves of Maratika. Following this, Guru Rinpoche visited the self-manifested stupa of Swayambhunath, where he took the Newar princess Shakyadevi as his consort. They then traveled to the caves of Yangleshö in Pharping, where they achieved realization through the practices of Vajrakilaya and Yangdak Heruka.

He also visited the self-manifested Avalokiteshvara in Patan and Kathmandu, among other sacred locations, bestowing blessings upon future practitioners. The meditation caves and holy sites in Nepal that Guru Rinpoche frequented constitute an important pilgrimage, enabling followers to trace the path of Padmasambhava, the esteemed master of Uddiyana. A pilgrimage tour dedicated to Guru Padmashambhava generally lasts for a week.

Buddhist pilgrimage tour of Nepal

Nepal, nestled in the heart of the mountains, has long served as a sanctuary for spiritual practices originating from the Indian subcontinent. The spread of Buddhism to China, Japan, and Tibet was facilitated by its salt trading routes, which connected to the Silk Road. The secluded valleys of the Himalayas provided refuge for Buddhism and various spiritual traditions during the tumultuous periods of invasion and internal conflict in India. The Himalayan region of Nepal has been a significant site for pilgrimages, retreats, and enlightenment for sages and spiritual leaders, with these journeys being honored across all local religions. Lumbini, located in the tropical Terai region, is recognized as the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha. Archaeological findings have revealed the Tilaurakot palace, where the pivotal event known as 'Mahabhinishkramana' (the great departure or renunciation) took place, marking it as a crucial site for practitioners. Additionally, the unexcavated stupa of Ramgram, one of the first eight Buddha relic sites, along with the ruins of the Kudan monastery, where Buddha resided upon returning from his enlightenment, are significant attractions near Lumbini. Furthermore, Nepal is also associated with the 8th-century Buddhist master Padmasambhava, who visited the region multiple times, attaining various levels of enlightenment and undertaking pilgrimages to sacred sites. Some of the hidden valleys in the Himalayas, which he designated as future teachings (Beyuls), are located in Nepal, with accessible Beyul valleys like Helambu being reachable from Kathmandu.

Most popular Buddhist pilgrimage sites of Nepal include Lumbini and archaeological sites related with Buddha, meditation caves of Guru Rinpoche and Beyuls known as hidden valleys blessed by Padmasambhava
