Weโ€™ve been receiving quite a few messages lately from trekkers saying theyโ€™re being told they must hire a guide to trek in the Annapurna region. Just to clarify things for everyone:

For well-established trails like ๐‘ฎ๐’‰๐’๐’“๐’†๐’‘๐’‚๐’๐’Šโ€“๐‘ท๐’๐’๐’ ๐‘ฏ๐’Š๐’๐’, solo trekking is still allowed. These routes are well marked, have frequent teahouses, and see plenty of trekkers every day.

You do not have to hire a guide for these trails.

That said, trekking with a guide can still be a great experience. A good guide can help with safety during sudden weather changes, local knowledge, culture and stories, and updated trail information. Many trekkers choose guides for these reasons, but it should always be your decision, not something you feel pressured into.

โ€ข Get your ACAP permit from NTNC
โ€ข Take a bus, flight, or local jeep to the trailhead
โ€ข Start trekking and organize your teahouses along the way.

If youโ€™re having trouble figuring out permits, transportation, weather updates, or if you later decide you want a guide, feel free to reach out to us. Weโ€™re always happy to help with information โ€” even if youโ€™re trekking independently.

The Himalayas are best enjoyed with good information and the freedom to travel your own way.

Safe trekking everyone. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

A collection of trekking permits from the 1970s โ€” when trails were wilder, maps were hand-drawn, and every stamp told a story.

Trekking in Nepal has such a rich history, and these old permits remind us how far the journey has come.

Do you still have your old trekking permits or passport immigration stamps from Nepal? ๐Ÿ“–โœˆ๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ 6 Arrested in Fake Helicopter Rescue Scam in Nepal

Nepal Policeโ€™s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested six individuals for running a fake rescue racket in trekking and mountaineering regions of Nepal.

According to police, foreign trekkers were falsely shown as having health problems and were made to take unnecessary helicopter evacuations. Fake hospital bills, medical reports, passenger manifests and invoices were prepared to fraudulently claim insurance money from foreign insurance companies.

Authorities estimate that around USD 11.9 million was illegally claimed through this scam.

The case also harmed Nepalโ€™s international tourism image, with foreign media calling Nepal a โ€œNo Go Destination for Touristsโ€ and โ€œA Scam on the Roof of the World.โ€

Police say the arrests were made under Nepalโ€™s criminal law for acts that damage the countryโ€™s reputation and international relations. Further investigation is ongoing.
